Hi all, I want to pick your brains now lol

When a Chapter is made, how is it actually made? I mean is there 1000 held in reserves in some facility for a new Chapter or does a small group of Space Marines who will be in the new Chapter go from planet to planet to grind new recruits? How many Space Amrines are released from their current chapter for a new one??

Many thanks

It depends - The Lexicanum article covers it. Some Chapters are entirely new whereas others are built around a core of veterans from another Chapter.

The scribes at GW write some lore, the artists whip up some pics & painted minis, & voila - a new marine chapter springs into being.

The Martian priests pick out a set of organs and make 1000 copies of it. This set of organs is unique to the chapter and isn’t supposed to be interchangeable with other chapters’, even though they are related.

All 1000 copies can be implanted into recruits at they same time and it’s not important where the first 1000 recruits come from as long as they’re compatible. Chapters don’t always ba be a home planet and this is something that they may develop while they’re campaigning, eg if they were to conquer a world or reconquer one that had its government destroyed.

Chapters that are already established have their marines cross-trained with other chapters and put themselves under the temporary command of another chapter’s officer. New chapters can benefit from that much more than just having a dozen officers transfer in from another chapter.
