So I was monitoring the culture,
as we do,
and overheard... well, was listening to
a rather well-known podcast producer/talent
tell a story involving these two ideas in the same breath:
bottom of the barrel, the dregs of hobby discussion
and
dakka.

so, simple poll.
Dakka is high culture or low culture.

Neither. It's a forum like any other, with people giving different opinions. I will say that I find Dakka to be more critical, but given there's a lot of forums out there who have/had a stance of only praise/positive reinforcement is given and complaints/critiques got you banned, it's a breath of fresh air to have an actual "free" forum where you can call GW out on their horsegak without getting a warning for being "too negative".
