Are there any good strategies for clanrat heavy armies?

Is there any good use for their retreat and charge rule besides maneuvering?

Make sure to take Ignore moral, i have a friend that plays with 1 large block, 2 small blocks, and a block of plague monks with the Bell. Ignore moral is so freaking good on them.

Which is very important, your clan rats are going to die by the 10's, if you lose 15 in 1 go you are now -15 bravery, meaning you are going to lose 8+ instantly.

Without it, i only need to kill 70% your army to kill off the other 30%.

Don’t forget to increase their bravery by 2 for every 10 models in the unit

Does skaven get a +1 over normal? B.c its +1 for every 10 models, all skaven players that i know are always immune so it ever comes up lol.

Yes, one of the Skaven army traits is that their units get +2 to their bravery for every 10 instead of the normal +1. Safety in numbers I suppose

Clawlords double clanrat attack output. Make use of them (1 per 2 blocks can work well, 1 per 3 is manageable but rough). Death frenzy further amplifies them (Verminlord Warbringer can slap it on D3 units, Grey Seer can hit one unit, and yes you can double up Dreaded + Standard on the same).

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

If you go Verminus, the battalion detachment let’s the clawlord apply his command ability to each of his units within 18”

Clawhorde seems expensive at 180.
It's worth it though?

Spears or swords?

personally I’d go with swords because they have a better chance of hitting

I do swords. Clanrats are already fighting in 2 ranks by virtue of base size. Rarely have I gotten enough of a footprint to make the extra fighting models (if they had spears) worth it.

Claw-horde is dicey for me. It's a lot of dependence on a single Clawlord.

thank you guys.
i was leaning towards swords as well but wondered if the extra volume from the reach of spears would make them better.
it sounds like it doesn't.
