I played Daemons heavily back in 5th and 6th, where deep-striking was everything and they were actually pretty powerful.

Got myself a Skulltaker and fitted him to a Juggernaut, subsequently murdering Monstrous Creatures and everything else I smacked with my uber blade of head chopping. Surrounding him with six other Juggernauts was just art in the making.

Now however the new dex doesn't show anything regarding the Skulltaker on a Jug. They also gutted the character pretty handily from what he used to be. Question now is, do I need to breakdown my model? Should I re-purpose him as a Herald instead by proxy? Is Skulltaker just plain bad anyway nowadays that it doesn't matter?

I am still rocking the old 3.5-5in tall Greater Daemons, just due to cost, but I want to get these monstrosities back on the field, and I'm having a hard time seeing my list as anything but fodder.

Pure Khorne Daemons is rough right now. Pretty much most if not all of 8th. That being said, Skulltaker has an updated datasheet available as a PDF from the Wrath and Rapture box set. I don't think he can take a mount anymore however. I'd just run it as a Skullmaster (herald) for the time being.

The old greater deamons are still perfectly fine to run as greater daemons. You might get some sideways looks, but it's totally fine. I still run mine on occasion, sometimes next to the newer plastic one. As long as your crowd doesn't care about base size you don't even have to mess with that either.

As for strategy, large blobs of bloodletters AKA bloodletter bombs are the most common for Khorne Daemons. Usually 20+ bloodletters set in deep strike and given the banner of blood for a 3d6 charge. They hit on 2's when they're 20+ so that's a ton of S5 -3AP attacks. Pair them with Skulltaker for additional buffs or a normal Bloodmaster for a Strength buff.

Daemon Prince are also nasty in combat and just went down in points. I like to run Karanak and Flesh Hounds for anti payker tricks. Sometimes Skull Cannons for a little bit of shooting.
