28 years is a long time and fair for a remake, as 50s movies were remade in the 1980s to much acclaim.
The original was one of the first films to open my eyes to the divide of race and class, and while Candyman was a story written by Clive Barker, its good to see this new film being the vision of a director who not only has interesting influences but is representative of the community over which Candyman holds in a grip of fear.
I saw the original again not that long ago, and I was surprised at how nuanced it was for a slasher movie. The whole thing could be a metaphor for a mental breakdown, while simultaneously being a social commentary and also featuring a genuinely tragic villain that deserves sympathy, if not for his actions then at least for the circumstances that bring him to that point. The whole thing has this sense of loss and unease, quite possibly because of the score.
I don't see any of that in the trailer for this, but I'm not going to condemn it just yet, it's a horror after all and you don't market a film to horror fans with subtlety and nuance.

While I'm certainly curious about the story, and will likely read the plot synopsis at some point online, I'm just not one for actually watching horror.

It's been decades since I saw the original but I do recall liking it. Supposedly this one's villainous undertones motivating the Candyman will involve police brutality and the evils of gentrification from the leaks I read. I'll pass.

I have seen the original films and read the short story they are based on (The forbidden). spoiler for point in the original story they may be using
The original film took alot of the story, but missed some of the more subtle background things, what he is and how he came to be
Spoiler:
he never really existed as a person. He is more of a projection of the peoples belief he does and as a reason for some of their problems and an excuse to vent frustrations, though he can appear in a very physical way
adding a background that was inspired but not the original one.
This one looks to be getting the more otherworldly feelings
The original really was surprisingly good and holds up well. Part 2... hard pass.
This one? Have to wait and see.

Dubious, since not a single cop appears in the trailer at all. I mean, I could yet turn out to be wrong, of course.
Is this the same source that fed you idea that the Masters of the Universe reboot will center around Teela and not feature He-Man nearly at all?

Just watched the trailer again. The comments section thinks this is about the little kid from the first one all grown up. I really like that idea. It works with the Candyman franchise very well.
I was worried it was just going to be a reboot but it looks more like another chapter in the Candyman story.
I am excited to see where this is going.

I think US was a lot of good moments built on a dumb premise that falls apart with the slightest scrutiny. There was a good movie in there. But that whole underground thing needs a significant rework/better explanation.
Get Out was great though.
