Hi guys!
I have to confess that it's literally been years since I last posted on DakkaDakka; mostly because I transitioned away from Games Workshop after what happened with Fantasy... but I don't really want to fall down that rabbit hole. Suffice to say, I moved on to historicals and I'd like to share a current project of mine, if I may.
For quite some time I'd wanted to get into Age of Sail wargaming, namely around the 18th century, but I couldn't find affordable miniatures (with the likes of Langton, you'd need a fortune to even do a battle as "small" as Aboukir Bay) so I got to scratchbuilding my own ships out of balsa.
They were... fine... sort of... but when Warlord Games dropped Black Seas I felt blown out of the water (pun intended). Seeing their sculpts made me realise I could never achieve the same quality just working with my hands so, starting last August, I got to work learning 3D modelling.
Since then I've produced 16 Age of Sail ships that I've got for sale on Wargaming3D and the response I got to them encouraged me to try launch a Kickstarter.
Gilded Sails is a range of eight 17th century ships themed around the Anglo-Dutch Wars. Each ship is available with two sculpts, one high detail original intended for resin printing and a second "exaggerated" version intended for an FDM printer.
The ships will come with masts, fighting tops, anchors, rowboats and bases. I've done my best to push what printers are capable of accomplishing. You can check the Gilded Sails Kickstarter here:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/215688918/gilded-sails-3d-printed-ships-for-the-anglo-dutch-wars - we've currently only 24 hours left before the window for pledging closes!
I'll close this post with some images showing off some of the ships themselves
