Hi Guys,

I hope you are safe during these unprecedented times.

Anyway, after a few years (last game was at the start of 6th edition) away from the hobby and one of the main reasons was because I moved to the UK. I decided to return to 40k.

Before I start to buy, I prefer to build up a balance list and based on that list start to buy the minis.

I've always been, and always will be a huge fan of CSM and after the release of the new miniatures. "My dear God" they are absolutely amazing.

Without further delays, there's my list, please feel free to criticize and add any relevant change that you think that could improve this list.

Note: My main goal is one day could become a competitive play.

Battalion Detachment (+5CP)
Legion: Black Legion
Specialist Detachment: Soulforged Detachment (-1CP)

HQ
Abaddon the Despoiler
Lord Discordant on Hellstalker: Autocannon, Mecha-serpents (Relic)

Troops
Chaos Cultist (x9)
Chaos Cultist (x9)
Chaos Cultist (x9)

Heavy Support
Defiler: Scourge, Reaper autocannon
Defiler: Scourge, Reaper autocannon

Battalion Detachment (+5CP)
Legion: Black Legion
Specialist Detachment: Devastation Battery (-1CP)

HQ
Chaos Lord with Jump pack: (Warlord) Mark of Khorne, Ghorisvex's Teeth (Relic) and Flames of Spite (Warlord trait)
Dark Apostle (Soultearer Portent)
Lord Discordant on Hellstalker: Autocannon.

Troops
Chaos Space Marines (x5): Boltgun
Chaos Space Marines (x5): Boltgun
Chaos Space Marines (x5): Boltgun

Elites
Chaos Terminators (x4): Chainaxe and Combi-plasma
Chaos Terminator Champion: Chainaxe and Combi-plasma

Heavy Support
Havocs with 4 Autocannons
Havocs with 4 Reaper Chaincannon
Obliterators (x3)

Obviously, for using 2 relics I will spend 1 more CP

Points: 1996pts.

What do you think about this list?

I would like in the future to include a Tzeentch Supreme Comand Detachment (WIth two Daemon Princes and Ahriman) to be more effective during the psychic phase.

Thanks in advance for any support.

My thinking is that your 6 troop choices are going to be fairly useless. It's obvious that you're just trying to fill two battalions for the sake of the CP's and loading up on as much hq and heavy support that you can. I think what would make your list more interesting is if you made your second battalion and allied chaos force from another codex. Death Guard or Thousand Sons for example. That way, you could get access to more interesting troop choices that would actually perform a role. 3 min squads of cultists are good for sitting in your deployment zone and holding objectives. You should have some troops who are capable to advancing forward and holding aggressive objectives as well. Otherwise, 6 troops sitting around your deployment zone are just a waste.

What is with those Chaos Cultists x9?. They come in sizes 10, 20 and 30. /endofrant

I am not so sure, whether that Devastation battery is a good investion for 1 CP. Not many opponents use fortifications, and then all you use it for is, Punishing Volley,... once......
One of your units getting one extra shot off, in your first round, if you go second. - wowsie. OTOH, you got the CPs with your double battalion, so why not.

I think the list will play well, if a bit boring. Gunline/castle, creeping slowly over the battlefield, with the Defilers and the Jumppack lord as counterchargers. When your opponent comes closer, use Tide of Traitors to send some Cultists to his end of the board to try to get some extra objectives, or victory points for "behind enemy lines"

I would make a bunch of your shooty units Slaanesh, Endless Cacaphony will help them a lot, and will help you use up your CP in a useful way, before the battle ends.

Maybe get rid of one of the Havoc units, and distribute the weapons and guys to beef up your tactical CSM squads.
The trouble with Havocs is, they are a cheap way to bring a lot of heavy weapons to the battle, but then, with every dead Havoc you lose a lot of points you spent on autocannons/chaincannons.
If you distribute those same weapons to Tactical Squads, you can take a lot of incoming fire, before your heavy firepower goes silent. So, in a real fire fight, they will outtrade your opponent.

Oh, Heavy Stubbers for your cultisis only cost 2 pts each. They aren't worth much more than that, but at least your Cultists won't look so nakkid.
