So I weirdly have extra cash on hand at the moment and I was looking at making an Ultramarines army.

Bobby G is of course included but due to the virus I can't go to a store and pick up a Codex and sift through it for myself.

Does anyone have any recommendations for an all primaris based, FLUFFY Ultramarines army? An entire 2k list idea would be great.

A lot of it seems really cool - but stuff like Reivers and the Warsuits all seem to fit the White Scars/Raven Guard better than Ultramarines... but I don't know since I can't pick up the book! Any help is appreciated.

There are as many ways of building marine lists as there are players. You need to think about what you want, and build on that. People can toss lists at you, but you need to find one that sparks your hobby fire. Also, how competitive do you want to be?

IMHO a fluffy Ultramarine list is a TAC list with a little bit of everything. Flexible, well balanced. You are not going to beat a skew list at their own game, and are probably not going to be able to pull the kind of broken stuff it takes to get to the top tables (which usually involves doubling down on your strengths) But you are probably not going to have any total face-stomp games. You should have the tools to deal with anything (but probably not as many as you’d like).

What do you want for AV firepower? Pure primaris limits you. But there are options.

If I was building a list, I’d first get a battalion started. Probably just intercessors for troops, but swapping out one squad for one of the other pics could work.
What HQs? You know you want Bobby G, so auras are covered, assuming you blob up your whole army into a deathball. If you want to have a backfield firebase, grabing a spare captain might not be a bad idea. Tigs for a little psychic power could also be fun. Not a lot of wrong answers here.

Once you have your core, just add stuff to cover your bases. So much depends on taste.

Thanks man - I came up with a concept! I have a friend who plays a mix of Nurgle/Death Guard, so despite including Bobby G I am going to theme it around the idea of reclaiming the Plague Wars worlds for Ultramar.

So I think the best way to theme this is to have a mix of Vanguard units as a sort of front line - and then the reinforcing backfield of the actual Crusade/Battleforce coming in behind to make the full push.

So it'll a Batallion + super heavy.

You and a couple others who answered this elsewhere inspired me to take a deeper dive into the available lore online and that gave me the inspiration. Thanks!

You’re far better off buying the Codex + Supplement first, pore over those and decide what you’d like to buy based on fluff and rules. The books will be available somewhere still in stock.
