Possibly the third man to be 'cured' of AIDS. Two were thanks to a bone marrow transplant with marrow that had the double delta 32 mutation. This may be the first time it's been done with medicines.

I used 'cured' in quotes as professional doctors and scientists are hesitant to use it for a variety of reasons, to people who have a "If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck" view it could be a cure.

We'll have to wait and see.

I do like that the article has a healthy amount of skepticism. One of the scientists quoted is right - we'll have to wait a couple years and see. Because undetectable doesn't necessarily mean absent.

I'm happy for the guy of course if this turns out to work.

Aids isn't a virus.

HIV is very treatable, with a range of medications available that can be taken orally once a day. This suppresses the virus and once a patient is undetectable they are essentially fine.

0% chance of passing it on, even with direct blood to blood contact. Little to no effect on life expectancy and little in regards to side-effects. The main problems regarding HIV are access to treatment, stigma, and ignorance.

As Hollow said, AIDS isn't a virus, it's a symptom of something else, most commonly, but not exclusively, HIV. It's amazing that HIV treatment has progressed to this point, however.
