Now, there was a temptation with the topic title to literally just post "hi" and that's it, but I decided not to be facetious in my first post on the forums. Regardless, hi!

I've been playing for a long time and now feel old, even though I'm not that old; I've recently decided to return to the hobby after a few years out. Last time I played, 7th edition was just coming out. When I was a teenager, I collected Dark Angels, back in the days of 3rd/4th edition and had an entire battle company. However, my main army was my comparatively smaller Witch Hunters force that I ran with some Imperial Guard units to bulk out their numbers, because we could do the whole multiple armies thing before it was cool! I then sold everything and regretted my decisions so hard when I got back into the hobby at university, where I decided to collect Eldar through 6th edition (started late 5th edition, but only played 1 game of it) and I've been doing so ever since. My Eldar are primarily mechanised aspect warriors, with jetbikes and stuff. The idea behind it is to hit hard and be able to redeploy to the other side of the board in a single turn, without losing too much firepower.

Since I now have every Eldar thing I want, I've decided to expand on my Imperium stuff (especially with glorious new plastic Sisters kits!), but only after I force myself to paint every last Eldar model I currently have. There's a lot of assorted aspect warriors that will need painting in their different colour schemes.

I typically build / play more narrative, fluffy lists and I always make custom armies, as opposed to pre-existing craftworlds, regiments, chapters etc, because I'm a huge roleplay nerd and would rather have the flexibility to flavour my army exactly how I want it to be flavoured. Yes, I'm the kind of player who names their characters (sergeants / exarchs included!). Expanding on this, I'd say 4th edition was really the golden age for me. I loved the level of customisation given back then and I'm happy to see GW are returning some of that to us, but it's not as much as it used to be which makes me sad. I would also be lying if I said I didn't enjoy 6th edition, because Eldar were an absolute powerhouse back then and there is a certain level of enjoyment being the big dog, though from what I gather these days we aren't the big dogs any more

Outside of the 40k stuff, I'm a 29 year old (see, I told you I wasn't -too- old, but I still feel it when people say how they're in their teens or early 20s...) analyst / project manager by day. Other hobbies are tabletop RPGs (I GM Cyberpunk 2020, Stars Without Number and D&D 5e, but not at the same time!), writing both fiction and non-fiction, I practice martial arts and I'm a huge airsoft player. The writing and the RPGs really lend themselves to 40k as well, hence as I said above I will always run custom armies and give all my characters names.

Anyway, before this turns into a longgggggggg post, I'll call it here. Look forward to chatting with you all!

Welcome (back)

The CW Eldar tactics sub-forum may help you get back up to speed and mechdar Aspects might be a thing for 9th even if the repointing slapped certain Aspects a bit harder than seemed needed

Welcome back, you chose a good time to return as I think the game is probably as popular as it ever was. Eldar are in a good place, though maybe not as uber top tier as last edition, but with the codices still to appear a lot is still in flux. Also the opportunity to make your own custom craftworld is well served by the Psychic Awakening supplement, which although released in 8th, will work through the 9th (the same is true for our codex.)

As far as a primer on any faction, as well as the game in general, I'd recommend heading over to Goonhammer as they have great army breakdowns in addition to informative/entertaining articles on the hobby as a whole.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
