Hello folks,

I visited once more my local GW yesterday. As I was keeping my distance to the other customer in the shop, a box of minis caught my attention:

They looked like the power-armoured goons of the Crimson Lance from the Borderlands video game franchise and the box read something like Primaris/Space Marine-Infiltrators, if I remember correctly.

These guys would make great cannon fodder for my Doom boardgames but when I saw the price tag all enthusiasm fled from my body:

45 Euros for ten dudes?! Really?! And they don't have many different weapons to choose from like a Devastator box does. So I shelved the box (1), had a small-talk (2) with the manager and left the store WITHOUT buying (3) anything.
At home I noticed that these three steps already turned into a familiar pattern whenever I went there.

hmm, aye, the pattern sounds familiar aswell.

Especially when a HQ model is involved.
Which i generally just started to kitbash out of models i allready had and not used ,etc.

A Mostly Renegades and Heretics blog.
GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Infiltrators are sort of like scouts because they can scout deploy, but their roll in the game is basically as board control.

They have an ability to stop deep strikers from landing within 12" and have a built in apothecary to bring dead guys back.

They are a bit overpointed for what they can do though and all GW kits are overpriced by about $10-15.

While not the full kit, you might want to look into the Start Collecting :Vanguard Space Marines.

You get 10 infiltrators, 3 Suppressors, 3 Eliminators, and a Lt.

So while you pay more in absolute terms, the cost per mini is lower. And there is some nice stuff in the box.

With GW prices being what they are, I try to avoid just picking up a squad box. Wait for a bundle deal. Take what savings you can. Also, online resellers for discounts. (or e-bay for people parting out sets, second hand stuff)

Yeah, this is probably a good idea to shop somewhere else. I usually refrained from doing so often in the past to support the local manager but prices have gotten so ludicrous that I just can't justify the expenditure to myself anymore.

I try to mix it up. I want to support my FLGS, as I have spent years where there wasn’t one around, and that sucked. So I picked up my Indominus boxes from one, and just grabbed a SC: Nids from another. I know I was paying more then I had too, but I enjoy having a place I can pop over to and pick up a pot of paint. Or theoretically get a game in and chat with fellow hobbiests.

But mostly I rely on Amazon gift cards for my hobby budget. It’s my guilt free money, and I tend to pick them up as gifts, rewards from programs at work, or points rewards from my credit card. Can’t always find everything there, and new things sometimes take a few weeks to show up, but normally at a decent discount.
