I feel the same way, but some people, possibly including the sculptor, might feel this is a way of "taking control" from something horrible, frustrating and random. Mock something to make it seem less overwhelming and terrifying, so to them it's a harmless way to "fight back".

I don't see this as deliberately making fun of the people suffering from it or the harm it is causing. But yeah, not something to indulge in lightly.

I’m on board for freedom of expression. Without the COVID tag, they’re just weird looking beholders... especially the one on the left.

It’s the COVID tag, and all that entails that puts this in poor taste. “I’ma play with my Nurgly plague bursters.” - Fun.

“I’ma play with my COVID plague bursters... How’s your Grandma in that nursing home? Breakout? Probly gonna die? Isn’t my art so clever?” - Bad taste.

These things can exist without the COVID tag. It’s disrespectful of people dealing with genuine life and death situations.
