I want to try fanfiction with Necrons. How much personality do Necrons have? I know that Overlords did not lose much humanity, but warriors lost theirs. What should I read to get a better idea so that I do not break any norms?

The Novella "Severed" I think gives a good idea of some Necron intelligence and personality.

I think one thing to remember is that there is significant variation, though roughly the higher up the rankings you are the more chance you've got of a personality and of retaining memories of the past and having time and opportunity to exercise it. Meanwhile lower ranks not only have a higher chance of retaining very little, but also have less freedoms.
