Ok, just a couple quick questions on dynastic codes and protocols.

All units in a dynasty get the codes, at all times, no need for a character to be around, right? You choose which one you want to use when you use that unit. Is that right?

Now protocols are what you choose in order and run in order per turn, and those must have a character or a convergence of dominion nearby to use, but sometimes they let you use both your dynastic codes at once, right?

P.S. If you take a roll your dynasty, you don't get to you both codes with any protocol, but you do get to choose your two protocols, again right?

Yes, all units in a dynasty can get protocols, except DYNASTIC AGENT, CTAN SHARD, UNALIGNED. First, you need a NOBLE in your army as your WARLORD. Second, an eligible unit needs to be within 6" of a NECRONS CHARACTER (excluding CTAN SHARDS) to get the benefits of protocols. When you reveal a protocol, you get to choose one directive, each dynasty has one specific protocol where both directives apply. When you use a custom dynasty you never get both directives from any protocol.

Dynastic Codes are the equivalent of Chapter Tactics: pick one of the big six for each detachment (or make a custom one) and they get that for the entire game. No choosing when a unit is activated; they are set on your roster and chose by detachment. You can have multiple Codes if you have multiple detachments but if you do, you don’t get command protocols at all.

Command Protocols are the equivalent of Doctrines: army wide rules that affect the game in a specific order by turns. Only unlike the Doctrines rule for space marines, you get to pick the exact order at the beginning of each game, and your non-Noble units have to be in range of a Noble to get any benefits. You choose which of the two bonuses on the card at the beginning of the battle round. You also only get to use Command Protocols at all if your detachments all have the same Dynastic Code.

The “big six” Dynastic Codes are ‘special’ compared to the custom codes in that they also have the effect of allowing you to double dip on one specific command protocol each but that’s a tangent.
