Hi all! So soup lists is something I've not really done and usually tried avoiding, but there's a list I want to try out

Essentially I'd be taking an Alpha Legion detachment, probably Battalion, and either a Death Guard or Thousand Sons Patrol detachment.

The idea is to take either Plague or Rubric marines in the Alpha Legion detachment as well as in the DG/TS detachment. This would allow breaking of the rule of 3, as well as the PM/RM in the AL detachment benefiting from AL strats and DG/TS strats (as the latter isnt legion locked.)

I wonder though which unit and legion would benefit more?
The idea is to use such AL strats that infiltrate them, or let them fall back and shoot. While still having equivalent units as troops for obsec. In regards to the TS it also allows for a stronger psychic phase.

At this stage, rule wise Im leaning more towards TS, however the only reason I havent settled is because I still have DG models from that box set.
And of course I understand once the new codices drop this probably wont be possible, but a boy can still dream.

As another alpha legion player who has played Tsons soup and dabbled in DG I feel DG is definitely stronger now. That said it's a slippery slope. Once you go that direction then DG and daemons is better than AL.

On that note daemons would be on par with either for AL. I'd play what you like and what you own. If I had to choose again DG is more potent this edition. Less susceptible to secondaries, more durable better ranged and better combat.

Tsons has a couple gimmicks including the risen bomb but not much else and they aren't a credible threat in combat. Not counting the tanky daemon prince.

As I have the DG models you're right I should probably just go with them, it does have a hit of nostalgia as I played mostly Nurgle back in 6th edition, and plague marines were a staple.

I guess with the changes to FW this is my forst attempt at an Alpha Legion list that doesnt involve dreads or oblits

I dropped dreads and oblits from my lists too. Oblits after 9th and then the contemptors with the FW changes. Sucks but it's not all bad since I like the other choices I get to try out.
