I was wondering how devestators (or long fangs in my case) comes out on mathhammer.

My suspision is that they have a good offense, but bad defense. Seeing they are 2W T4 3+ save. As opposed to other hevay wepaon platforms who often are vehicles of some sort. Are the devenstators essentially glass cannons?

I hope any discusion will not be eclipsed by how good eradicators are.

One thing is that they take different kinds of firepower to kill. Mostly.

A hit with a meltagun will vaporize one dev. Maybe just a guy with a bolter is you took a few extra guys just for this. But it will shave a chunk of wounds off a tank.

Devs are infantry, so interact with terrain more (and generally better) then vehicles.

They are more susceptible to small arms fire.
They get more buffs (generally)

Devs can’t move and shoot as well.
They are more susceptible to morale shenanigans.

They both function differently when wounded. Devs are still at full stats, but might loose guns, while vehicles degrade, keeping everything, but getting worse BS.

Honestly, I think there are so many moving parts here it’s hard to declare one “better” especially when you start factoring overall army composition, CT, WL traits, etc.

Small arms fire is not so dangerush turn 1. But long range fire will rech T4 W2 3+. Very few weapons have a long range but little S. It just seems to be that when you buy a predator, or gladiators you pay a lot for the T. The dreadnaught is not really a good long range weapon platform, so I am not so interested in it.

It just seems devestator with heavy bolter, ladcannon, plasma cannon or rocket launcher is the cheapest platform to get that weapon. Pladma cannons have some competition from the primaris hellblasters and orimaris jump infantery. Meltas has competition from eradicators (or attack bike for mobilaty.)
