Trying out an idea for a new Space Marines chapter, the Scions of Rage. With two Chapter Traits [Scions of the Forge - units with a wound track function as if they had twice as many wounds] and [Whirlwind of Rage - if your units charged, were charged, or Heroically intervened and roll a natural 6 to hit, they score an additional hit] the natural goal is to have as many Redemptor (and Relic Leviathan) dreadnoughts as possible. At 1000 points, one Redemptor makes sense.

I envision the bikers and a squad of Assault Intercessors in an impulsor as grabbing a key objective early, with the Apothecary foot-slogging it beside the other AI squad along with the Captain. The Dread rampages and acts as a Distraction Carnifex. The Chaplain throws in on whatever objective is most important 2nd turn, or drops in to help the Dread maybe, depending on what's going on. Powerfists and the Dread provide anti-vehicle support (which I think is where this list is weakest), everybody gets stuck in and the blood goes everywhere.

I figure with this army list I'll know by turn 2 if I'm going to lose horribly or not.

So I changed things up after using this army list once. I decided the chaplain wasn't that useful and the Impulsor didn't give me enough heavy hitting.

Okay, so, now the Librarian casts Might of Heroes on either the Redemptor (when he's about to get into the thick of things) or the Razorback (if it's getting pummelled). This ups either one to T8 making them more resilient. The Techmarine repairs whichever one is most important for the mission (obviously depending on whether there's a need for Anti-tank capability or not) and gives the dread an additional point of AP for 6's shooting in turns 2+. Combat squad the Tac squad so one squad is SGT + troops for a bit of melee, and the other squad is heavy bolter and grav-gun for some shootiness on an objective. Bikers run out early and put a lot of shots on an enemy infantry unit and cap an objective, while the assault intercessors run forward and try to do the same as quick as possible.

The Whirlwind of Rage thing is pretty cool and leads to lots of hits. The Scions of the Forge makes the Razorback and the Dread really dangerous when the enemy thinks they've worn them down.

The Techmarine having the master-crafted forge bolter is super-sweet, though. That makes it an assault 3, STR5 AP-1 (-2 in turns 2 and 3) 3 damage gun that the enemy will probably ignore until they try to get close to the Dread and find out the hard way.

If your fluffy goal is to have as many dreads as possible you should prioritize that. Lose the librarian and the bikers for another redemptor of figure out the points for a leviathan. You are taking a full chapter tactic for 2 models and only 1 dreadnought.
