this is just a hypothetical question, not a result of a game event, but i'm sure it must have come up beforehand.

So, some psychic powers (like Smite) have the targeting restriction "closest visable enemy unit", yes? how does this interact with the sisters of Silence ability to not be targeted? specific wording is "cannot be targeted or affected by psychic powers".

So, if you have an enemy psyker, with a SoS unit close to it and, say, a guard squad behind them. are the SoS "invisable" to the psyker for the purposes of the power, or do they block him form targeting the guardsmen, as they are the closest unit, but cannot be targeted?

also, is the "icon of flame" power counted as a psychic power? I feel it should, but i cant see a statement saying it is.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

The psyker can only target the closest visible enemy unit. The closest enemy unit cannot be targetted. The only way to follow both rules is to not allow the psyker to choose a target for Smite this turn.

However, the Icon of Flame is not explicitly a psychic power and so it can hit the SoS just fine. Fluff-wise this doesn't really make sense, but that is how the rules handle it.

You have to fulfill all restrictions. If thats not possible, you cant use the ability.

That said, Smite does not target. It just affects the nearest unit. Still does nothing to Sisters of Silence, but its an important distinction.
