A good while back I managed to score half a dozen dreadnoughts off eBay and over the next dozen years I collected more of them. With the Space Wolves and Blood Angels codex supplements both having dreadnought HQ choices, I'm seriously considering an all-dreadnought army. Have any of you run or encountered such a thing? Here's what I have in mind:
Space Wolves Vanguard Detachment
HQ
Bjorn (Warlord), Heavy flamer, Trueclaw, Twin lascannon (195)
Chaplain Venerable Dreadnought, Dreadnought combat weapon, Storm bolter, Twin lascannon (110 or 168)
Elites
Murderfang (150)
Venerable Dreadnought, Missile launcher, Twin lascannon (155)
Wulfen Dreadnought, axe & shield & heavy flamer (130)
Wulfen Dreadnought, axe & shield & heavy flamer (130)
Wulfen Dreadnought, axe & shield & heavy flamer (130)
Blood Angels Vanguard Detachment
HQ
Librarian Dreadnought (150)
Librarian Dreadnought (150)
Elites
Death Company Dreadnought, Furioso fist (pair), Heavy flamer, Heavy flamer (135)
Furioso Dreadnought, Furioso fist, Heavy flamer, Heavy Frag Cannon (125)
Furioso Dreadnought, Furioso fist, Heavy flamer, Heavy Frag Cannon (125)
Venerable Dreadnought, Missile launcher, Twin lascannon (155)
Venerable Dreadnought, Missile launcher, Twin lascannon (155)
The PC version of Roster Editor says the Chaplain Dreadnought costs 110 points, while the smartphone version says it's 168. I figure the higher cost is correct but I built the above list before I found the rules on belloflostsouls.net (where 9 Power suggests the 168 points rather than 110). To compensate I'll probably swap the chaplain and the wulfen's heavy flamers and pick up another Wulfen or Furioso Dreadnought.
The librarians would likely have Quickening and Wings.
While it's only 14 models, it's 112 Toughness 7 wounds with 3+ armor and -1 damage (everyone has Duty Eternal), and as it's all single-model units Morale isn't a concern. They're all Vehicles so they don't suffer -1 To-Hit when moving and firing heavy weapons, and they can shoot their guns at things they're in melee combat with (notice all those heavy flamers?). Yes you only get 6 command points but it seems reasonably solid for a theme army.
Thoughts? Opinions?
