Hi All,

i have a friend that is questioning if the Victrix Honour Guard Rule: Honour Guard of Macragge can only work on ultramarine named characters or all characters, i think it is all characters as they gain the Ultramarine keyword when they are included in the Army he thinks its only named guys: Calgar, Tigrius, Gulliman etc.

the rule reads as:
‘While a friendly Ultramarines Character unit that has a
Wounds characteristic of 9 or less is within 3" of this unit, enemy
models cannot target that Character unit with ranged attacks.’

so if you could assist is it just Named characters or any characters included in an ultramarine Army that would be great

Many thanks

Terry

It's any CHARACTER with the ULTRAMARINES keyword, they don't have to be named.

They protect any ULTRAMARINES CHARACTER, which means any unit with a datasheet that has both the CHARACTER and ULTRAMARINES keywords (or where the <CHAPTER> keyword has been replaced with ULTRAMARINES).

Neither of your poll options are corrent since they do not protect all charactrers, only Ultramarine ones.

Having said that, I don't actually see these in the latest Space Marines codex. Are these even a valid unit still? They were in the Ultramarine supplement from 8th edition but I believe those have been superceded?

In answer to the above, yes they are still valid. The original space marine supplement are still on sale and still current rule for those chapters, they have been FAQ'd to bring their language up to date.

To the OP's question - When a unit with the Keyword <Chapter> is included in an army that keyword is replaced by the keyword of which ever chapter you have chosen. Thus a space marine captain taken as an ultramarine would have both the ULTRAMARINE & CHARACTER keywords an be eligible to be protected by the honour guards.

Perhaps ask your friend to re-read the rules for choosing chapters (or craftworlds, clans, etc...) by their logic Gmans buffs would only effect units from the ultramarines supplement as well.

OK, fair enough. I wasn't sure since I figured a lot of the stratagems from those books might no longer be valid, but then again GW are not going to want to lose the rules for all their new primaris characters.
