So I wanted to do the following for a primaris imperial fists captain....
1 cp vigilus detatchment
warlord trait: Indominatable (auto morale and receive bnefit of cover in 6")
1cp Imperial fist strategem - sentinel of terra (+1 WARLORD TRAIT)
Architect of war (+1 saving throw v sv -1 if receiving the benefit of cover)
relic: vox espiritum =3" to aura abilities
Question...
1. Can I do this?
2: would I have, in a 9" radius, the benefit of cover (+1) SAVE, auto pass morale and get an additional +1 save v -1 save weapons?

NOT sure about 1 it depends on the wording of the stratagem, does it say choose a model and give it a warlord trait (or words to that effect) in which case no or is it more along the lines of your warlord gains a second trait (i know there are a few strategems that do that now)
as for 2, yes it would work out that way depending on the wording of the stratagem for the extra trait ( i dont have the fist book)
also, note that the vigilus specialist detachments are no longer tournament legal, but if you are just playing with friends it should be fine (if playing pickup games, id ask opponents permission)

Thanks for the info..especially about vigilus not being tournie legal... I don't have any experience with 8th or 9th so I am trying to get used to the interactions between rules. Sentinel of terra allows you to generate a 2nd warlord trait for your warlord but it must be from the imperial fist codex supplement.
The IF trait is crazy specific b/cit requires the models to be receiving the benefit of cover (already) to gain the +1 vs -1 sv weapons. Normally not a very good warlord trait...but since the vigilus one gives you the benefit of cover...it synergizes well I think.

AHH, cheers for clearing up the stratagem thing.
yes, that is how it would work in that case.
the specialist detachments can be used in friendly games or narrative, but i think its the tournament pack that bans specialist detachments. If you are just playing with friends this could be a cool idea to build an army around, just be aware that if you take this list to somewhere new you are probably better off having a chat with your opponent about it ( yes i know it sucks, the vigilus formations got dumpstered on so soon after their release relatively speaking).
Chances of anyone having a problem with this outside of the "I wanna practice for a tournament" scenario are very low though, and I would certainly play against it.
Only reason i asked about the trait, is that there are now a number of strats that allow you to give warord traits to other models in your army other than the actual warlord, but yes, it looks like you have read it correctly.
On important thing to note... If a rule says gain "the benefit of cover" or similar, it means the +1 to saves bit only not any other effects that some terrain rules have. If unsure, the Faq for the main rulebook (on the community site) is the place to check (and especially the "rare rules" interactions setion which modifies and clears up a LOT of ambiguity. I highly advise downloading it asap. It Helps.

Both the warlord traits use the "receive the benefit of cover" phrase so I think i'm OK. Sentinel of Terra is specific to who your "warlord" is..the basic SM codex has a strategem that does allow you to give a warlord trait to someone who is NOT your warlord.
Yeah, it's all a bit complicated.Kinda fun for having a fearless and tough to kill18" diamter bubble. Personally, I hate that marines can run away now...know no fear my sweet fanny.

Aren't all of the Vigilus detachments invalid now, certainly in match play? I struggle to keep track though.

The Vigilus detachments are not allowed in the Chapter Approved Grand Tournament 2020 Mission Pack. I don't know if they are allowed in the other non-rulebook mission packs, but they are perfectly legal in all BRB missions.

Yeah, thats it. Its only the Tournament pack that specifically prohibits them
This forum is often fairly tournament-centric so bear in mind that 40k can be played in other ways ( before anyone shouts at me for being a filthy casual, i have absolutely no problem with the majority of posts being competitive focused...after all, if you are invested enough to frequent an internet forum then you obviously are pretty.invested in the way you play the game, and fair do's to you all for that)
Just bear in mind that a lot of people will answer questions based on current tournament level play, and modifiy to your own circumstances
And thats enough derailing of the thread for me
