Hello once again everyone, currently in the process of wrapping up my Raptors Army which is going to be very tank heavy as I am a huge fan of the new Gladiator models. However that being said to add a little variety to my collection I am looking at matching my Raptors collection with a Carnifex heavy Tyranids list so I can actually experience the close combat phase and another excuse to field one of my favorite models in bulk. Idea behind this Army is simple oh, lots of big monsters running up the table supported by some movement shenanigan units and others to pop up anywhere to help pick objectives. Any and all feedback is appreciated as I am also brand-new to Tyranids, thanks guys!

HIVE FLEET: Kraken
DETACHMENTS: x1 Battalion, x1 Spearhead

HQ:

-x2 Neurothropes
-Old One Eye *Warlord*

TROOPS:

-x2 units of x3 Ripper Swarms
-x1 unit of x4 Ripper Swarms

HEAVY SUPPORT:

-x3 units of x3 Carnifexes
*w/ Spore Cysts, x2 pairs of Monstrous Scything Talons, Adrenal Glands, Tusks, Bone Mace

-x2 units of x3 Biovores

TOTAL ARMY: 2000 POINTS

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

Unfortunately I think the carnifex isn't in the best place right now. A bit too expensive for what it does really. seeing how few things in your list actually was able to fit in... I think it just confirms it.

Scything talons also have an issue since your carnifexes only have Str 6 meaning most vehicles/monsters will only be wounded on a 5+ .... you have very little to deal with tough pieces in your list.

Dont get me wrong, I always have loved the carnifex but this isnt their edition (until the new codex comes out at least I hope).
When I do consider them I prefer to go all shooty with a HVC and Devourers BLW + enhanced senses.

a Tyranid list nowadays really needs a unit of 6x Hive guard since the double shooting stratagem is too good to pass and the heavy terrains that this edition favours means they really shine well.
Maybe consider an Exocrine too since they really do well.
get a couple of lictors too, on top of being a really nice model, it gives you great tactical options for scoring and disruption

Quick note that a single spearhead detachment doesnt refund you the CP for the detachment even if the warlord is there so a battalion would save you 3CP right off the bat.

If I wanted to do a Carnifex list it would probably look like this.

Battalion
Walking hive tyrant - HVC - MRC - (Resonance Barb - one of the best relics in the game btw, unfortunately useless on neurothropes tho)
Neurothrope
Old one eye

3x ripper
3x ripper
3x ripper

1x Lictor
1x Lictor
6x Hive Guard

1x Exocrine
3x Carnifex
3x Carnifex

should hang just under 2000pts

Is old one eye still viable?
Last I've seen of him, is that he wasn't in that good of a place.

One has to wonder. Do the Tyranids consider drop-assault troops... fast food?

Old one eye is in a slightly bad spot. 9th stopped his hit modifiers from stacking, which stops his hits exploding on a 4+ (or 3+ with custom fleet).
He still hits really hard though.

Another thing is he's no longer the hardest hitting monster around since the forgeworld update. So if you want a punchy monster then most people look at those instead.

Oof, and those FW monsters are not cheap in any sense of the term.
I have been on the receiving end of a siege Carnofex though. So I know that more than a few of them, are either worth their points, or can make their points back.
