Played a game yesterday, and this came up with the guy I was playing. He had a single unit in combat with two of my units. According to him, all he had to do was roll all of his attacks, then I took the wounds on my units, applied however I wanted, as long as it followed the 2" rules. I've always played that you have to specify which model is attacking which.

Am I confusing 3rd and 4th, or was he wrong?

You specify which model is attacking which unit, so yeah, that guy was wrong.  If you still got that cast on your foot the next time you see him, crunch his toes as you point it out to him in the rulebook.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

He was right about the 2" engagement limit for wounds , this is one of the examples in the rule book that is quite clear (pg45). How anyone still messes it up is beyond my ability to understand.

Now , I will show them why they fear the night.

Can someone give me a logical argument for it? I need one so I can convince him.

What kind of 'logical arguments' are needed for what's pretty clearly stated on page 45 of the Warhammer 40,000 4th edition rulebook?
