Hello.

Working towards building a 1000 point ork list, open to all suggestions. Does the list below seem sensible? Planning on putting the Warboss and Meganobz in the trukk, possibly with the Weirdboy. But I figure that may be putting too many orks in one basket...

All comments welcome.

A couple of comments;

1) What secondaries are you going to go for with this list? 9th lists need to be built around specific secondaries like scramblers/raise banners & engage/domination. Since you are using 2 mek gunz to hold your backfield objectives, you can't do raise banners or scramblers because that requires infantry.

2) 5 tankbustas aren't going to do squat. The only way they are useful is either a) deep striking 10 + 4 bomb squigs to blow up a high value target in rd 2 or b) putting 10+2 squigs in a trukk in a vehicle heavy list. Option a requires your opponent to have a high value target which is not likely at 1000 pts. Option b is obviously not an option with this list. Scrap the tankbustas.

3) Why would you put your warboss in the trukk? He needs to be with the boyz to give them advance+charge.

4) 3 meganobz don't do much. Die too quickly or atleast get reduced to 1/2 that can't really do enough damage to kill anything in a round of combat.

5) I would save the CP for warphead in this case and get rid of fists of gork. Your warboss is already a beatstick and will likely kill anything he gets the jump on. CP in 1000 pt games is super important and you already have to spend 3 on skarboyz and your warboss.

6) Kombi-rokkit is only useful when running deffskullz, and even then it's up for debate.

Personally, I would switch to a battalion. Replace the tankbustas and trukk with 2 units of kommandos and a unit of gretchin to raise banners/scramblers/hold your backfield objective. Replace the kombi-rokkit with kustom shoota. This should give you enough points to add 1 meganob, top off your boyz to 30, and give the nobz power klaws. Start with 3CP which gives you at least some ability to use strategems other than green tide in rounds 1&2. This list could easily get close to max points on engage/domination, scramblers/raise banners, and then you only have to find 1 more secondary depending on the mission and your opponent. Very strong at 1k.

PS, this list badly wants to be deffskullz because you don't have a KFF and your boyz are going to be paper thin. Deffskullz gives all your boyz a 6++ and your kommandos, MANZ, and HQs get obsec which is crazy strong. It would also save you 2CP on skarboyz which would allow you to give your weirdboy warphead and the warpath psychic power to make up for the lack of strength 5. Cast warpath on a unit of boyz and da jump them round 1 right in your opponents face and watch them spend 1-2 rounds trying to deal with that while you capture all the objectives with an entire army of obsec units. If you want to stick with goffs, drop 1 of the mek gunz and switch out the warboss with a big mek in mega armor for the KFF for the boyz.

Thanks for the help zoltan88. I'm new to the game and am trying to build up to completing my first army. I've recently completed 500 points of orks and was looking at what the next target is. (I probably should have made that clear in my first post...) However, I thoroughly appreciate all of the help.

To respond to your comments:

1. No idea!
2. Fair enough, scrapped them. Was just thinking about different things to include.
3. I was thinking that if I used Da Jump on the boyz, I'd need a way to get the warboss up to them. I am assuming that he wouldn't Jump with them....?
4. Fair enough. I think I might have included them because I want to build some. Not to worry - scrapped them.
5. I've kept him as Warphead for now, following on from your later comment. I also haven't spent any points on skayrboyz.
6. OK, it's gone.

Have changed it to Deffskullz and a batallion.
2 units of kommandos - I managed to fit that in with points for 1 kommando nob - I assume that was worth it?
I've got the gretchin in there now x 30.
I assume that you meant nob, not add 1 meganob? To add with the boyz....

Please could you have a look at the list as it now stands and let me know if there is anything missing?

No worries! Advice is the same even for a new player. Additional comments below.

1) The weirdboy can only jump 1 unit per battleround. The warboss will footslog up the board with the 2nd unit of boyz and the weirdboy. Research the "look out sir" advanced rule to understand how to protect characters.

2) Change 30 gretchen to 10 (saves 100 pts and serves the same purpose of holding your backfield objective the whole game)

3) No nob on kommandos. Keep them cheap 45 pt units (saves 19 pts). All they are there for is to deep strike in turn 2 into the middle of the board to deploy scramblers, and deep strike in turn 3 into your opponents deployment to deploy scramblers. If you are sneaky you can also get engage on all fronts points with this move. Research grand tournament 2020 secondaries to understand what I'm talking about.

4) With the changes above, you could add the 3 meganobz which you could put in strategic reserves for 1 CP which is probably the only way to successfully use 3 MANZ. That way they are coming in to the game in round 2 or 3 9" away from an enemy with a 58% chance of successfully charging. If not you have 9 obsec wounds your enemy immediately has to deal with.

4. Done. I assumed 2 x killsaws on each, one being a boss? I might swap the meganobz out for some games for a dakkajet, just because I have one in a box and want to build it!

Also, nobz in boyz mobs, power klaw yes, but choppa or slugga in the other hand?
