I've just become the proud owner of a bloodthirster. While I do like the standard red-skinned paint scheme I always enjoy making my models different from the box art. I'm looking for examples of different paint schemes (and associated guides/tutorials if available) for bloodthirsters. Thus far I've found this molten bloodthirster. How did you paint your bloodthirster? Any cool schemes you like? They don't need to be wildly different.

I also want to know if anyone has advice for attaching the model to the base. A single point of contact makes me nervous for a model this big. Should I pin it? Is there another option? I plan to use the taller flames for the jumping pose.

I painted this guy a long time ago:

Not exactly what you're looking for as he is the fairly typical red-skinned variety, but I did use the taller flame stand for the jumping pose. I can tell you that it's sturdier than it looks. Of course, I never dropped it off a table or anything. You shouldn't need to pin it or anything unless you really want to.

As for alternate paint schemes, I saw a cool one that was painted as Illidan Stormrage from World of Warcraft once. Not sure whether I saw it here on DakkaDakka or on another website, but it was really cool!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

I went for black with my Khorne daemons. Worked on the flesh hounds, not so great on the bloodletters and I never got round to painting my bloodthirsters.

Does anyone have a guide for doing a black-skinned bloodthirster like what's on the box? I can't find any tutorials or recipes for it.
