I'm reading this and as of now Alpharius has become my favorite character in 40k. I'm about 1/3 thru.

Glad to hear you’re enjoying it. Does this book expand on Alpharius’ reasoning during the events of Legion? Seemed a bit rushed on that book.

Haven't got to that bit yet, just got to where the XX legion was first revealed to exist to the galaxy, they went to help the dark angels in their first appearance as an open legion.
Alpharius' observations about his brothers are pretty interesting. I'm looking forward to him meeting guilleman.

If you mean the events from Legion, not really. Although it does give you some insight into Alpharius's personality which might in turn tell you what sort of things might motivate him to make the choices he did. But then again, one of the first lines of the book assures you that the entire story is a lie.

ATTENTION. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

It's been a while since I read it, but I think you may have misunderstood.
The 'lie' is that it's Alpharius speaking at that point. I don't recall any statement that the story itself is a lie, just that "I am Alpharius" bit.
It's definitely the best Primarch book of the ones I've read so far. I think Mike Brooks might actually be my favourite BL author now, even above ADB, Chris Wraight and Peter Fehervari.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry. |

I really enjoyed that book and I love that the first two lines of the book are:
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."

My only problem with the book is how some of the info presented contradicts "known" lore on the Alpha Legion; though I guess there really isn't any known lore....
