How do!

A kind of general geek media thread, rather than it being focussed on a particular property or genre. What I want to read and discuss our your/our ideas for doing something new, or refreshing a given area of Geek Media.

Idea came to me because I’ve been watching my Wrasslin’ again. And as much as I adore it (American Pantomime meets Combat Ballet), certainly WWE is somewhat formulaic.

Given how long the format has run, there’s clearly a lot to be said for “if ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. But I still feel there’s room for some innovation. The idea I had isn’t messing with the heel/face/tweener dynamic, oh no. That’s for wiser minds than mine. Rather, it’s what I think would be a new match type. The Tilt Ring.

Eff knows how this popped up in my head, but it did. A sort of lumberjack match, where the lumberjacks can Kayfabe use rods/handles to physically tilt the ring, with the real lifting being done by remotely controlled pneumatic jacks.

The angle of tilt needn’t be terribly high, just easily noticeable. I’m not good at angles, but say no more than 25 degrees. Have three positions on each side of the ring, and make a show of the performers putting their backs into the lifting. Proper fake strain, huffing and puffing, the lift not lasting long (Monsters could of course be seen to sustain it longer, or overpower the combined lifting power of others.

Used cunningly, it could help sell the arresting of liner momentum, with the person affected suddenly running up or down hill, messing up their pacing. And of course it can be used to help interfere with pins and submission moves.

I imagine it’d take a lot of choreography and practice to pull off safely. But used as rarely as a Cage or Elimination Chamber, could be an interesting addition.

So now you’ve got some kind of handle, let’s hear your ideas for refreshing/innovating existing stuffs.
