Subject: Wearing MK III and MK VI in the same squad?

I wonder did Space Marines wear MK III and MK VI armor in a squad? or did it have to be uniform? One squad wearing MKIII and the other wearing MK VI, because it's all that they had issued at that particular time. or when MK VI came out, all the MK III was disposed of? Anyone actually know this answer, because I have been getting different answers?

absiolutely ok, mixed armors in squads is the NORM. also a lot of the time a marine wasn't all armored in the same mark, with his suit being a mish mash of parts from differant marks. stuff like a MK 7 chest with a MK 6 helm etc is quite common.

To put it plainly, the key is that the answer to "Were the prior marks of armor disposed of when the newer marks became available?" is "No."
What happens when newer versions of the armor become available? Any number of simultaneous variations of the following events:
- There aren't enough pieces of the new armor for everyone, so the old armor remains in use.
- The new pieces of armor end up getting used to repair old suits.
- People keep using the old armor because they've had it for a long time, and they trust it. And this happens even before the armor is old enough to be a relic.
That's just the nature of people, and equipment roll outs.

Only pre-Heresy and I suppose early Heresy did you see uniform Marks in a single squad.
Indeed, the MkV Heresy Armour isn’t a proper mark, but shorthand for cheaply produced replacements.
Beyond that, and excluding Mk1, and I suppose to some degree the Mk10 suits? It’s all interchangeable.
That’s the damage the Heresy wrought. Legions and later Chapters had reduced capacity to replace lost or damaged suits. And the bits are mixed and matched to maintain battle readiness. I suspect they do prefer to have something as Mk7 as possible for example, compare to Mk2 legs, Mk3 arms, Mk8 chest plate and Mk6 helmet. But such a mishmash is indeed still possible.

Old fluff was that a Space marines armour was treated with religious reverence and they ritualised the care of it. They wouldn’t replace it because there’s a design update. Not sure how current that thinking is but I think there plenty of room in the setting to justify this and make your units look more interesting

Post-Heresy Marines tend to wear whatever they happen to get into. But I feel bad for their techmarines, maintaining all that mess of various Mk's of armour must be a giant ballache.
What I'd find much more difficult to stomach would be if individual Marine squads mixed bolter patterns. AFAIK many patterns of bolters don't use the same ammo, so ammo logistics would be practically impossible..

Bit of both.
Older suits are still honoured and maintained. But when beyond maintenance, in comes a new suit.

even with mk 10 tacticus there seems to be SOME modularity with older marks given the intercessor kit includes one studded shoulder pad.

New suit? No, this is still my Grandfathers axe! It's been through hell, I've replaced the head twice and the handle three times. But this very same axe was used by my Grandfather to fell many a tree.

I’ve definitely read fluff about SM handing weapons down from fallen soldiers to new recruits rather than just binning them and making new gear. Like I say they are all holy relics.
Pretty sure they scour battlefields to recover items from fallen battle brothers. Better than letting scavengers sell Geniune Astartes Combat Knife in whatever passes for a pawn shop in 40K
