Hi, I've been messing about with this list for a little while now and I'm coming close to finalising it as were about to return to gaming. As the title says I live in a marine dominated meta and I'm struggling to consistently get points against them. I do score but it varies quite wildly from game to game.

I thought with this kind of list I could use the things I like and try and whittle it down or add some more competitive options in order to get more points more consistently. I intend to use this list for a few games to get a proper feel for it but I do think it covers most bases but lacks a little AT. I don't own spears, spiders or reapers as i purged finecast years ago and haven't got metal ones.

So the list is a brigade 2000 on the nose with Expert Crafters and Hunters of Ancient Relics. We're using GT2021 pack with mission 21 Surround and Destroy next on our list and were looking at the WTC pack for scenery and terrain placement etc. My opponent is going to be UM with a good large collection of primaris marines to choose from. Although hellblasters will no doubt appear as he loves the heavy ones.

My secondary picks are ROD, EOAF and ???? I can't think of one to take after the other 2 although assasinate might be an idea but I doubt he'll be taking as many characters after the last game where I scored 11 points from it.

Farseer: Doom, Fortune, Focus will, Spear,
Spiritseer:WL:Seer of the shifting vector,
Spiritseer:Faolchus wing,

DA(5):Ex Shield and glaive,Avenging strikes,

Banshees(5):Ex,

Wraithblades(5): Axe+Shield,

Swooping hawks(5):Ex Evade,

D-cannon:

War Walker: 2x Star Cannons,
Wraithseer: D-cannon, smite, quicken/restrain,

Wave serpent:Twin Starcannon,
Wave serpent:Twin Starcannon,

So the plan is to have the support weapons hold my home obj with 5 DA's who could potentially move up in to midfield if needed. Ahead of them will be 2 wave serpents containing another 5 DA's and 5 Banshees. These will be suppoprted with 5 Wraithblades and a spiritseer running up along side onto the central objectives using quicken and matchless agility. The 2 vypers and the hawks will hopefully get me my secondaries on the first and hopefully another turn. The 2x5 rangers will DS on later turns for secondary help as no doubt the vypers will be dead. The Wraith and farseer will go about helping out as much as they can. Hopefully i can move a serpent or a squad of blades into his half of the table in later turns to help out with scoring also.

I'm looking for advice on a 3rd secondary but I do realise that keeping it open can also be handy. Also do you think I should focus on one central obj or go for a spread across both?

Hope you like the list and if you have any hints or tips then let me know. Many thanks.

My experience is the dire avengers just die super easily. So do banshees. I’d run three wraithseers because they’re absolute melee monsters and can contest objectives very well. They also can insta kill a lot of large targets with the d cannons. I would’ve even use wave serpents they don’t put out enough firepower. Shadow specters firing and fading are marine murder machines. Maybe run wraithblades with psychic boosting and hunters of ancient relics with some stratagems for them. You need synergy. The wraithseers are going to be the focus for the enemy without a doubt. They also can all use psychic powers and deny. Theyre just amazing

Also vypers suck. They die easily and don’t even do much damage for their points. Just drop them. Against marines you need shining spears. Get the skilled rider power and cast protect on them and they get 2+ invuln. They can quicken up the table and either shoot and charge. Or shoot then fire and fade behind cover to do it again next turn. Try to keep them alive as long as possible.

Without drastically changing your listm and working with what you have.

Pretty sure the Wraithblades and Wraithseer are the three most expensive units in your army. To The Last can be a fairly easy 10-15 points if you play the mission and do not recklessly throw away those units.

The Vypers have use for Engage on all Fronts, but will likely be destroyed if Ultramarines draw LOS.

DA are 2 Power Level each. For 1 CP you can place up to 9 PL in Strategic Reserve. I typically run 4x5 DA and place them all in Strategic Reserve so they assist in ROD and Engage on all Fronts.

You can win and not really do much damage to your opponent's army. Play the mission and really focus firepower/assault on units that would get the other player more primary objectives. Keep that score close and you can pretty easily score 37+ secondary points.

Watch out for Guilleman and the mass amount of reroll dice he enables. Massed Bolt Rifles can and will become an issue if you are not careful.

Be mindful of terrain in 9th edition. The table needs a fair amount of LOS blocking terrain to be a fun and competitive game. If the table is sparse on terrain, look at ways to put as much in reserve and hide the remaining amount stuck on the table.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.
