Available on GW there is the Space Marine Plasma gun pack with 5 resin plasma guns, I have 2 questions that I'm hoping someone may be able to answer as I would like extra plasma guns for conversion purposes.

1) Quality; are they the fail-cast we have gotten to know and hate or are they a different type?

2) size; I thought I read someone mention somewhere that they are slightly bigger/wider then the older metal packs, can anyone confirm or deny this?

They would be GW's trademarked failcast resin, yes.
(They were originally metal parts. Failcast used the same moulds but with resin instead.)

Plasma guns didn't have backpacks. Plasma CANNONS had backpacks. there's one in the Devastator's box (which is all plastic).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

I meant the (blister) pack of metal plasma guns, not backpacks. Hence why I said plasma guns, nothing about cannons. Are the resin ones wider then the metal ones as I’m sure I remember someone saying that in a thread somewhere.

They are supposed to be cast with the exact same mold as the metal were, so there shouldn't be a size difference. They may have been talking about the frame that failcast comes in though, which is a full frame around the models as opposed to the simple metal tab.

I quite like finecast when it comes out OK. The lines are sharp. The material is a joy to cut if you want. And it is easy to paint.

While tedious, GW do have a good return policy on them. If they are failed.

The old 2nd Ed plasma guns were fatties, 3rd and up were thinner.
