Could anyone tell me how to scale down the dimensions of an object to 28mm (1/56 scale)?
I am trying to make some ammo boxes for scatter terrain to be used during my ACW games. Their original measurements were (in inches) 14.75 X 10.75 X 6.38 although after examining some original boxes, these measurements were used on some as interior size and others an exterior size! I bet the ordinance department wasn't happy about that!
With that in mind, I've decided to use the following measurements, 15 X 11 X 6 inches. Now how can I scale these measurements down to 28mm size?

If you're working on 1/56 scale, you just divide by 56.

So your 15x11x6 inches becomes (about) 1/4" x 13/64" x 7/64".

Bear in mind though that if the minis are 'heroic' scale rather than truescale, proportions and scale of accessories will sometimes need to be fudged a bit to look 'right'.
