So i've found a youtube video on magnetizing models and I wondered if the circle magnets would break any rules for a tournament goer?

As long as it's the right size, you should be fine.

If you are worried about the bases being 1.5 mm taller, don't. Many people I have played in WarHammer 30k and 40k have models mounted on resin bases from places like MicroArts and Secret Weapon Miniatures. These resin bases can add another 5mm. Easy. No TO is going to give you grief about that.

Are you worried about something else?

My biggest concern would be strong magnets on your bases being affected by metal supports on the underside of folding tables!

Oy. I need to stay away from this part of the forums, if people really are worried that someone would have a problem if thier dolly is 1mm taller than another dolly.

Its good to ask questions to make sure you dont break rules, and then adjust in order to follow them.

But this s a hobby about creativity, and to ever see someone seriously have any issue because my dolly is standing on a tactical rock or because i used a disc magnet to help me store my dolly in its dolly house... well, my heart would break seeing such a new philistine low in humanity.

I'm trying to remember if the first time I heard 'modeling for advantage arguments,' including basing. Was a it 20 or 30 years ago? I'm leaning closer to 30 years.

Certainly not some sort of 'new low,' especially in tournament discussions.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

To some players, sure. To other players, it is a competitive game and they don't want to sink a lot of time and effort into a model which then gets invalidated because they inadvertently broke a rule. It's a reasonable question and that is why some form of it comes up so often.
