several of the new Tau weapons have rules that explicitly forbid the reduction, ignoring and transferring of damage to other models.

So how does that interact with damage limits?

So if model A can only take 4 wounds in a round, and it takes 6 from a weapon that can't be ignored, how much does it actually take? I can't get my head round this.

Cheers

Andrew

It would help if you cite the rules in question. In general, when the attacker has a rule which forbids damage reduction the target suffers full damage.

IGNORING WOUNDS VS RULES THAT PREVENT MODELS FROM IGNORING WOUNDS
Some models have a rule that says that they cannot lose more than a specified number of wounds in the same phase/turn/battle round, and that any wounds that would be lost after that point are not lost. When such a model is attacked by a weapon or model with a rule that says that enemy models cannot use rules to ignore the wounds it loses, that rule takes precedence over the previous rule, and if that attack inflicts any damage on that model, it loses a number of wounds equal to the Damage characteristic of that attack, even if it has already lost the specified number of wounds already this phase/turn/battle round.

Sorry p5Freak you are quite right, I should have included the rule. The particular one is the Farsight warlord trait.

However the rules quote you provided answers my question clearly.

On that same note, if you were to hit a model like Ghaz"kul with a weapon that did 6 damage and a mortal with such a trait, you would only do the 6 damage and the mortal would be lost.

Mortals happen after weapon damage, and since he's already hit his damage per turn cap he cant take the mortal since the trait that allows you to go past that cap only applies to the damage of the shot and not any extras.

This comes up with characters like Valarian in the Custodes Codex.

He can ignore the damage cap with his attacks, but any mortals he deals from his Peerless Warrior warlord trait would still be stopped by damage capping abilities.
