Since detachment abilities dont apply to units that start in reserve. Will my farsight enclaves battlesuits retain their sept tenets if i choose to hold them in reserve to manta strike them? Im a little confused on how that all works.

That is not correct. Any unit in an appropriate detachment gains the detachment abilities regardless of where it starts the battle.

If you add a unit to your army at the list building stage then it is still part of whatever detachment it is in and gets any applicable bonuses, even if you later decide to use a stratagem or ability to set it up in reserve.

Units that are added to your army AFTER the list building stage are the ones that don't get detachment bonuses (e.g. summoned daemons or assassins that you purchase with the 'Operative Requisition Sanctioned' stratagem).
