The British Army, so could be any old sh*t hole in the world.

I played a game last night against space puppies.

My opponent had two Wolf Gaurd Battle Leaders in terminator armour with a four man retinue each.

Each squad had three assault cannons, two in the squad and one on the battle leader.

His reasoning is that the battle leader can take anything from the wolf gaurd entry, including assault cannon.  Three retinue can have an assault cannon on every third model.

Two questions really

1.   Can the Battle Leader have an assault cannon?

2.   Do you need six men in the retinue to get two?

I didnt' mind playing him as he has to pay for them anyway and I found they didn't enjoy a face to face with a possessed aspiring champion with lightning claws.

While I am not personally familar with the Wolves, the rule is that the team leader gains access to the Amoury. For example, 2 battle sisters can take meltaguns/squad. The Vet Sister can not take one too because the melta is not listed as something you can buy in the armoury for characters.

It does say in in the Codex that a Battle Leader can take the options of the Wolf guard and/or the Armory. BUT, the only real option in the codex for WG other than the armory is for Heavy weapons, both Power armor and Terminator types. These are limited in number by the number of Wolfguard IN the retinue.

Seems to me that the battle leader cannot have the Heavy weapon becuase he Leads the retinue and is not counted as one of thier number.

I guess one could argue that, but the number of Weapons carried would still apply, I would think.

Fractions are rounded up for determining the number so in order to have 3 Assault Cannons in a Retinue he would have needed 7 Terminators. (Not including the Battle leader as far as I know, only because the Battle Leader does not count towards the total number of Wolfguard allowed in an army, this is the only sentence I could find that would support that claim though).  Well, besides the fact that a Wolfguard Battle Leader is and IC and follows all of the rules for one.

The FAQ makes no mention of this particular question.

If someone knows any better please let me know, 'cause if I can do that then I've a conversion to make!!!

It says pretty directly in the Wolf Guard Battle Leader entry that they do not count as Wolf Guard for purposes of equipment cost or availability.

As well, the option to take an Assault Cannon is, very specifically, in the Wolf Guard bodyguard entry, and can only be assigned to models in a Wolf Guard bodyguard.

Yes, you can take two Assault Cannons in a four-man retinue, but there is no possible way for a WGBL to take one.

Addendum: Make sure your opponent is paying full cost ("Other" cost) for wargear for his WGBLs and not the Wolf Guard price -- they pay the more expensive "Other" price for their wargear. Somehow, I suspect he's cheating that way too
