I remember in 8th edition there was a FAQ that, when you added models to a unit, required those models to be in unit coherency with models that existed at the start of the phase. This was important for restricting how quickly units such as Pink Horrors could spread out with their split rule.

I thought that such a restriction existed for 9th edition, but I haven't been able to find it. Does anyone know if this restriction actually exists for this edition and what document / page it is found in?

You still need to place those models in coherency, but you can "grow" towards the enemy this way. When a unit has 6 or more models, every new model you place needs to be within 2" of two other models, which severely limits the speed at which you can spread out.

The more strict coherency rules of 9th, the general crack down on rules spawning multiple models and no longer being able to grow beyond your starting size have made this rule no longer necessary.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Thank you, that is about the conclusion I came to after not finding the 8th Ed restriction. Seems like edition lag still occurs after all this time.

Ah, I made a mistake in my post above - it needs to say "within 2" of two other models".

This prevents conga-lining into the enemy like the old pox factory lists did.
