Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening depending on where you are, thank you for stopping by and checking out our work. For those of you that haven't read my last two threads, let me introduce myself. I am Zylem, I just recently started getting into Warhammer because my son wanted to start an
AOS Stormcast army. So for his birthday, my wife and I bought him the Dominion box set. The idea was we would have two armies and could learn together. After watching a few videos, I noticed someone kept mentioning Dakka Dakka (EonsOfBattle, if anyone was curious who to blame
lol). So I decided to check out the site and well here I am. Thank you for the warm welcoming and helping answer questions I'm sure have been asked dozens of time before.
While we have no Warhammer background, I painted miniatures back when I used to
DM in Dungeon and Dragons. So I know some of the old tricks and can get caught up with some practice and YouTube research. I hope to be able to share our journey as we dive further down the Warhammer rabbit hole and improve our techniques. If you have any feedback or suggestions for how I can improve my posts, please let me know. (I'm not that up to date on forum code, so please excuse the formatting of these first few posts

I'll get it figured out soon. )
I don't have any pictures of us building the models. I didn't think I would be starting a blog at the time, funny how things can change. We were sure to remove the sprues with snips and sand/file any burs and mold lines. this took awhile but was very therapeutic. We used the time to talk about what's going on in our lives and tell jokes. Overall it was just a great time sitting, talking to my son.
The first picture we have is spray priming the Stormcast army with black matte spray paint. I tossed a few extra minis I had left over from an old
DnD campaign for us to practice with. Looking back, I wish I had a way to secure them to the cardboard. The spray from the cans was strong enough to knock over some of the minis. So I had to glove up and take it one at a time. My son sprayed half of them after he watched me. I walked him through making small, controlled sprays, keeping a good distance away so the paint would not pool and lose the detail of the model.
It was a hot, sunny day so we did not have to wait long for the next coat. My son wanted most of his army to have gold armor with purple accents. So once the black primer coat dried we blasted them with a few very light coats of Retributor Armor spray paint. Experimenting with how heavy we wanted this layer to be was fun. He decided to let the black show through more on a few of the minis. These will have seen more action is what he told me.
We have been visiting some game shops in our area, trying to find a community to play and learn with. While talking with one of the workers that leads the shop's Warhammer games, he recommended my son come up with some lore for his armies as he paints them. "Make them your army" was what he kept telling us. So at that recommendation, my son decided to paint the armor on four of his characters silver. This is a core of specialist Annihilators, hand selected by Yndrasta herself. So their armor is going to be matched to Yndrasta's.
The final models we left black because that have a lot of fabric on the top layer instead of metal armor. Our plan is to brush paint these and try some old wash techniques to make it look more like fabric. I was worried the metallic paint would make it look too glossy or shiny.
Finally, I know some of you have noticed by now that some of these models and not on their proper base. This is because we may have gotten the buggy way in front of the horse. We started working on the bases way before priming the minis. My son saw a video on how to make cobblestone bases using Crayola Magic Putty. So now he wants his whole Stormcast army on these bases. So while I was busy trying to not cut my thumb off fixing sprue burs, he was dressing up these bases. Again a shout out to EonsOfBattle, it was his tutorial that helped.
Whew, well that was a lot. I hope you all are still with us. Next we are going to be hand painting the purple accents on all the models that were sprayed with metallic paint and trying to figure out what to do with the Kruleboyz arm. I am leaning towards red skin, light brown tunic colored clothes and a peachy yellow accent. My son is thinking green skin, grey clothes and deep red accents.
We really look forward to sharing more and hearing from you all. Thank you for spending your time here with us.
