Hey guys, it's been a long time. Most (all) of you won't remember me, and that's okay. I ducked out of 40k a while ago and decided to, I guess, duck back in? Anyway, here's what I'm looking to run with House Taranis Knights. This might be a little bit of a goofball list, and it's a little premature because new stuff is coming out tomorrow, but hey, I'm trying! Also, I have a bunch of Knights I'm painting up to try to make all pretty and stuff.

I do apologize if the formatting is a bit off. Please bear with me. Also, under the Nephilim rules as currently released, this is going to be a 1 CP army starting out (eep!).

Super Heavy Detachment: 3 CP (Refunded)

Chivalric Oaths: Defend the Realm, Lay Low the Tyrants.

Allegiances: Mechanicus, Taranis (my wife's name is Tara, and the colors are similar to our wedding, so it makes her smile).

Lord of War: Knight Castellan w/Character (Knight Lance), Warlord, Revered Paragon, Exalted Court: Forge Master, Knight of Mars, Revered Knight: 640 pts (this would be better with two cannons, I admit, but my dog grabbed one and I like to be WYSIWYG).

Lord of War: Knight Errant, Exalted Court, Master Tactician (Machine Focus), Heirloom: Sanctuary, Knight Baron: Landstrider

Lord of War: 2x Armiger Helverins, Stubbers, one has the Helm of the Bastard

Lord of War: 2x Armiger Hellglaives, Stubbers

Lord of War: 2x Armiger Hellglaives, Stubbers

Complicated, eh? The big thing is to shoot and send a bunch of melee up front while having a decent shooting attack. Yes, the extra cannon would be nice.

Howdy, I'm a fairly new knights player but thought I'd chime in anyways. I run a list with a Forgemaster Castellan as well, and it can be quite a nice weapons platform in your own zone, but it can have trouble finding opportunities to shoot if you want to have it planted on an objective and your opponent is hiding their forces from it.

I have a Freeblade lance and in my list, I take Cawl's Wrath on the Castellan with Unremitting. Unremitting is excellent for the Castellan as its cannons and main arm weapons are all blast. Might be worth considering depending on the matchup, though Cawl's Wrath is not as good as it used to be.

The other thing I think worth thinking about is whether you want to leave out taking Ion Bulwark on either big knight model. In my mind it's almost always an auto-pick for me as it frees up rotate ion shields on another model. On the Castellan I get that you are trying to get virtuous so Knight of Mars could be useful... but your Errant is probably going to take a lot of ranged fire before getting the chance to get into melee even with the bonus movement from Landstrider. I see Landstrider/Sanctuary working best on a Gallant that you just want to throw hard and fast at the enemy. However your Errant has some great buffs for the Armigers you are running as well as great ranged potential. If it were me, depending on how I wanted to play that second knight it would be:
A) Gallant for rushing into melee
B) Errant or Paladin for ranged focus
C) Canis Rex for a flexible option. Canis Rex is actually fantastic, with improved bonuses for armigers and 2+ for WS/BS. Freedom's hand is beastly in melee combat as well, the only trade off is the las impulsor is not as good as the thermal cannon or rapid fire battle cannon.

Hope that perspective is at least somewhat helpful!
