Just out of sheer curiosity I wanted to ask what you guys think are the best generic characters in the game. Since character units in different factions have to fulfill different roles I'd say you have to split this into two questions:

Who is currently the best generic character that acts as a force multiplier?

Who is currently the best generic beat stick character for the points cost?

Not that long ago the best beat stick for the points cost would have probably been the Dark Eldar Succubus (before nerfs), and the best force multiplier would have probably been the Skitarii Marshal before admech nerfs. In the current meta I really couldn't give a decent answer, hence my question. What is your opinion?

It's easily the Custodes Captains.

I don't play IG very often, but I'm going to toss out the humble company commander. He's cheap, and his orders are basically a bunch of psychic powers with no chance of failing (except on conscripts) or being denied. I doubt he's the most powerful force multiplier (even for his points), but he seems pretty well-designed. I think I'd like more support characters to look a bit like him.

The mathematically best force multiplier and beatstick is a math problem I don't have the time or energy (or math skills) to answer; but there probably is a correct answer.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Beat Stick? For sub 100pts? Either a Succubus or a Canoness, Succubus is still extremely good, you can still do a 10 attack model that wounds on 2+, -3ap (pseudo -4, or -5) 2D, and for every failed hit, wound, and successful save make another attack, against a 4++ character it something like 12D average, against normal marines with AoC its 16D, for 95pts thats extremely good.

I've always had a soft spot for Inquisitors. Not really due to their combat stats, more for the modelling potential. There are only a few models you couldn't really use for an Inquisitor or his entourage.

Force multiplier: Farseer Skyrunner. They add so much to a craftworlds army, and can full any role you need depending on powers and relics. There's nothing quite like Doom and Guide to begin with, but also being able to spam mortal wounds like no tomorrow (Crushing Orb + Excecutioner + Kurnuos' Bow) is amazing.

Beatstick: probably a succubus with all the blender upgrades. She'll eat entire units for breakfast.

Beatstick - I'd say the Solitaire is probably the best for its points cost.

If it wasn't generic, then it would be the silent king. But otherwise I think it is something like a hive tyrant, crucial to a good factions working, powerful and cheap for the points. A close second would probably be the eldar seer.

Honestly they can be pretty good in game, but they're highly reliant on dirty tricks (assorted). If their quarry rule is active they're surprisingly good for a minimal cost, but of course you can't pick that retroactively.

They're a great force multiplier in Nachmund games where a combination of Esoteric Lore, Mental Interrogation and Strategic Excrutiation makes them a great command point battery for Imperial armies.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'd echo guard officers for force multipliers. Without much effort a company commander can be throwing out Front Rank Fire, Second Rank Fire to fifty plus guys with lasguns.

Yes it's only lasguns but 1) they still get hammer of the Emperor and 2) if a model had a rapid fire 50 shooting attack you'd give it a second look however crap the strength and ap was....

My first thought was also IG company commander. If not for the platoon commander, they'd be almost mandatory for non-scion guard (outside of pure tank lists).

In a relative sense, I might also put the IG tank commander considering they're one of the best units in the codex.

Beastboss on squigosaur is a pretty awesome beatstick and can fulfill different roles depending on his WL trait and relic.

The tallyman would be an absolutely insane force multiplier if DG actually had any CORE units with a damage output worth talking about. Therefore the crown goes to the foul blighspawn. A fight last bubble and the option to remove charge benefits topped off with a vicious flamer is pretty neat.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

On a limb - a tricked out Lord Discordant?

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Point for point, a Order of Our Martyrd lady Canoness with Righteous Rage, Martyrs Strength, Word of the Emperor and Blade of Sacrifice, and The Passion is the answer. 95pts, does an average of about 8 mortal wounds to any target below T12, can potentially do up to 24 mortals if you roll all 6s to hit.

If it didn't also take 3 CP, it would be even more nuts.

In terms of pure beatstick-ness, I'd say the Enforcer Commander. He's around 150-200pts depending on loadout but give him the Thermo Projector, Onager and PotH and you have (based on my standard loadout)

- 9x S8 Ap-2 D2 shots
- D6+2 S4 Ap-2 D2 autohits
- 4 S12 Ap-4 D3 attacks in melee.
- D6+2 additional S4 Ap-2 D2 attacks in melee
- Everything rerolls hits and wounds.
- He also reduces damage by 1.

He gets expensive but can be an absolute tank on the battlefield. I ran a Coldstar last match armed with just the Thermo and no PotH, he somehow killed a Primaris Chaplain on Bike in close combat.

Winged Hive Tyrant with Reaper. He can delete pretty much anything in the game and if played correctly (overrun into cover/tyrant guard), can be saved for another turn, etc...

I actually think it's pretty cool that there are a lot of different answers coming to that question. Makes me believe that there is a good variety of very strong characters across the factions.
