Subject: BeamDown: Terrain Building Software - COMING SOON!
Well, color me interested. How much are we expecting the program to "cost" for end users? Or is this going to be ala Hero Forge, paying for each design and the like?

It's definitely a LOT of fun to just build and play with

We're finalising the financial aspect currently so stay tuned on that one
Do you have idea for offering to have the terrain made in the software printed? Or is the plan to allow users to find there own options for getting it printed out.
I don’t have a FDM 3d printer, so I thought I would ask about it.
Otherwise I am rather impressed and going though a terrain phase right now lol.

We won't be directly offering physical prints of the terrain, however we will offer commercial print licences. These partners can print and sell terrain from BeamDown

I mean, the building creator looks impressive and all, but most printers won´t have the space to print them as a single piece, so would this allow to create something like subassemblies, or like the files from your other campaigns?
Something like, separate walls and floors with connectors and all that.

Yes, you will be able to group sections into print groups as smaller sub sections and choose what kind of connectors you want such as magnets, OpenLock, etc.

Could be worth it depending on how many assets you get, but that's the part that isn't very clear. I've spent more in total on TownSmith and haven't done a damned thing with it.

I'm more or less in the same place (also got TownSmith, also did diddly feth with it >_> ).

Also worth noting that the pledge only allows you to export the STLs for 12 months. There will be a monthly fee after that.
I am really wary about backing projects which I could have access pulled from in the future (or see prices increase to an unreasonable level). For the estimated $10 a month I could sign up for a Patreon providing detailed monthly releases that are mine to keep.

That's me out then. I don't usually do subscriptions for software, and certainly not for that price.

If this was a pure subscription service without the upfront fee then I may have considered it but not like this. Quite bad that this fact is not clearly sign posted but in an FAQ.

"We've listened to feedback within the community and decided to make unlimited STL exports free indefinitely! This means you can export as much Kickstarter terrain as you like for the life of the platform without any subscriptions or time restrictions.
Instead of any 12 month export periods or subscriptions, we'll just be selling asset packs after the Kickstarter launch for you to add to your asset library and print without time frame limitations.
Our goal is and always has been to deliver the best possible platform to the users whilst maintaining a sustainable platform. We believe this is the best solution.
Note - We're unable to adjust the wording of the pledges but consider unlimited, ongoing STL exports unlocked for our backers!"

Ah, good to know. Will have to give it another look then, I instantly closed the tab when I saw the 12 month restriction
While that's nice, that just means you're pledging for 'permanent' access to the initial offering on what appears to be set up as an ongoing subscription model with future updates planned.
It's still just a hook into a subscription service with the files held on a server, when there's a vast number of other terrain Kickstarters that just send you the files to keep. I personally don't feel that the mockup/arrangement software is worth the inconvenience and the worry that the service might fold, and then I'd have nothing.
I'm still not down.
