I'm posting this for some possible discussion on what we/I would like to see or what could be done in terms of house rulers and miniature conversion projects to expand the game beyond the War of Five Kings.

Dance of the Dragons

With "House of the Dragon" show launched I thought that I should share my thoughts about how to allow us to play games in a Dance of the Dragons setting for this game. And hopefully in a way that would make sense to carry out for CMoN, or as a house rule and conversion project, and wouldn't just be impossible day dreaming by me. One of the advantages of this conflict, as compared with Blackfyre Rebellion or the Faith Rebellion and such, is that published background material probably makes this the second most detailed conflict in the setting and so lots of lore to build on.

What I propose is that the troops for the Houses are remain what they are, mostly, and that we get some "Heroes of the Dance" boxes for the Greens and Blacks respectively and add a small number of units to the game to be used with an angle for this conflict, but mostly also used in the War of the Five Kings.

The most important of these additions would be House Hightower as Green in a Dance game and as a neutral House like House Bolton in a standard game, as seen in their stand-off approach in the series to the War of Five Kings. Along with House Targaryen's Westerosi forces. Targaryen Westerosi forces could reasonably also be used to simulate Westerosi loyalists and oppertunists joining with the Targaryens after a potential landfall in Westeros by Danaerys as well as being used in other historical settings for the game like the Faith Rebellion, Blackfyre Rebellion or Robert's Rebellion.

Lots of minor rules could be needed, such for Baratheon and Targaryen not adding troops that are not present at that time to fight in Westeros and so on. But I think this could have potential and if for nothing else hopefully give some entertaining reading for the community.

Would be interesting as Daenarys and her hotch potch a saurus forces dont interest me in the slightest.

A good post Aegon the Conqueror royal Targaryen army would be amazing.. Led by Daemon and Raenerys on Syrax and him on Caraxes would just be... *Shivers*

That sea of silver and black warriors banners aloft...

We're on the same page here, even if I got my favorites with the major Andal Houses of Westeros (excluding the habitually rebellious Tullys). But a Westerosi Targaryen army would certainly be attractive for me to collect for this game, more so than the current Targaryen army which along with the Night's Watch are the two least interesting armies to me.

Love this idea.

I think Hightower army infantry composed of (strictly speaking of models):
Warriors Sons
Poor Fellows
Queens Men
Rose Knights
Lannister Guardsmen with head swaps
Riders of Highgarden

The Targaryens (Blacks) would be:
Tully Sworn Shields (with fish filed off, imagine how cool that armor would look in black)
Bolton blackguard
NW Vets
Thorn Guard
Lannister Guardsmen
Rhllor Faithful

Again, I'm just talking about the aesthetics of the models and what fits the factions in my mind.

While I like the Idea, I have not read the books or know enough of the world. I watched the shows, but digging deeper is not in my calling. I would gladly play against someone who did field an army from another time period, as long as it balances.

as for other ideas of how to expand ASOIAF game system. I used to have the belief that Mantic and CMoN should join forces to produce a tabletop game system. This was before ASOIAF tabletop, so now I know we can fully dump Mantic. I like how the unit trays work and could see an adaption to fantasy armies of undead, trolls, gnomes and minotaurs. Really with the first Massive Darkness campaign I saw plenty of possible models to use for this sort of fantasy bash using the tray. Basically all the models from every CMoN game could join the Fray. Blood Rage has enough models to make a horde of vikings with different clans on each tray with sorcerers and special figures to boot (Fenrir or the Giants). Massive Darkness had Gnomes, Ratlings, Reptilians, Elementals and other models. Not sure what Massive Darkness 2 brought, I was turned off by the looks of all of the models and the theme. Zombicide Black Plague had enough fantasy zombies and Necromancers to bring to battle Ankh has some models as well as large beasts to bring. They could reuse all the old molds and reissue the models with new bases (or new trays) and save a ton on sculpts. It would hands down beat Kings of War.

Anyway...pipe dream.

LOL, Theo your mind is an amazing place, never change.-camkierhi 9/19/13

Yeah, the system is really great.

I think you could pretty easily just change the graphics on the cards and the names and have a pretty cool general fantasy setting keeping existing army units in the same faction.

Free Folk become Goblins/Orcs
Baratheon become Dwarves
Targaryen become Barbarian horde
The Noble Lannisters (maybe Martell's?) are High Elves
Nights Watch are Wood Elves
Starks are humans

But I do think an official adaptation of the system into a broader fantasy rank and flank game using their existing assets seems like a home run. The system is just so excellent.

That's two solid lists. The only thing I would feel some hesitation over is the inclusion of Faith troops into the lists. Remember that the Faith Rebellion is well into the past and with it the disbandment of both military orders of the Faith, so no Poor Fellows or Warrior's Sons.

We are of one mind here. While my obssessive enjoyment of the setting and lore has cooled since a couple of years ago, I would also love to see the game expand beyond the War of Five Kings.

I'm with you. It would be pretty interesting if this would happen as it would mirror the development of the RPG system. First we got a solid RPG system for Westeros, and once the license expired the same system was updated into a generic fantasy setting with a focus on noble intrigue a la Game of Thrones (but with rules for Dwarfs, Elves etc.) under a new name.
