A bit of background:
* I've been playing 40k since early 5th ed. I also play Infinity. I'd like to get into AoS. I currently play Death Guard in 40k, and Combined Army in Infinity.
* I straddle the line between casual and competitive player. I refuse to chase the meta, and if I happen to be playing one of the current meta factions, I'll usually try to handicap myself a bit, either with a non-meta list, or putting artificial limits on myself like 'no more than two of any selection in the army.'
* The most fun I ever had playing was with my 40k 5th ed Nidzilla lists, and my single riptide Tau lists.
* I tend to buy a full army (2500pts aiming to play at 2000 pts), paint it up, then play the hell out of it, adding additional models rather slowly.
* From an aesthetic standpoint, and in no particular order, I like Slaves to Darkness, Skaven, Idoneth Deepkin, Kharadron Overlords, Beasts of Chaos, and Kruleboyz.

If I were to wishlist, I'd like an army that focuses primarily on unique mechanics or rule-bending army abilities, movement and shooting, then magic, then melee. I'd prefer an army that has a current(ish) book, and one where I could craft 2-3 workable lists from a strong core of models. If it has loads of stealth, repositioning, and monsters/vehicles, all the better.

Thanks in advance for any and all perspectives.

Skaven sounds a lot like it. Teleporting, pregame movement, deep strikes, magic, shooting, melee. About only thing they can't do well are very tough infantry like blightlords or fast cavalry.

And options to build list is silly amount.
