It's just an idea for fluff, which is a equivalent to "the brethren of iron" in 40K version
A SM chapter has a lot of combat automata units and deploy them as expendable troops because those automatas are easier to repair and replacement than battle brothers. Although the feared Cybernetic Cortex of these combat automatas has been removed, it ismore like remote control dolls than a 30K automatas. When no one directly controls them (an independent character within a certain range of those units), they can not even take any action. In this regard, their autonomy is even less than the Kastellan Robot.
Compared with the 30K era, these combat automatas have been greatly weakened, and nolonger have any shiny weapon anymore but some more mundane weapon such as heavy bolter etc.but they are still T7 units, which are used for good Tarpit or distract Carnifex units.
Although they are no longer have Cybernetical Cortex, it still violates the Codex. But even so, the Chapter has never been eliminated because of being accused of techheresy and violating the CODEX.
To rationalize it, you need a reasonable and would be a interesting reason, and this will be a unique story.
