Howdy ya'll. I'm gearing up for an event in Cantan this month and I needed to buy another squad of Boyz. I had to settle with the mono-pose ones, but to my surprise you can change the loadout of the special weapons boy (Which I have already chosen to be the Rokkit launcha).

But then, for their Boss Nob. I want to try something. Can you perhaps ditch their slugga for both a Big Choppa and a Powerklaw at the same time? I'd rather ditch the dinky 0AP slugga pistol where everyone else has one for 0AP and a 2/6 chance of even making a hit is lame.

I'd rather bonk and slice the tank open in melee.

You can do this but there's no substantial benefit for spending the extra +15pts.

If it was my army list I'd rather run it as a regular Choppa + Powerklaw, as that's only +10pts and gives you a bonus AP-1 attack to use that will be handy if you don't reach an enemy tank.

It's the new boyz, you can't put a choppa on them for their boss nob. Only a powerklaw and slugga or a big choppa two handed. I know, it sucks.

Friend I recommend to cut, saw and file the big choppa so it doesn’t have a second hand on it so you can mount the power klaw. If this means having to cut the big choppa hand area off to reorientate it then you can either use gap filler and sculpt it to look more natural or find something like cloth or thin leather to wrap around it.

OR, you can just trim down the big choppa to a normal choppa. Or even use normal bits from another kit by sawing off weapons or whole hands. Remember that orks loot all the time so a bit from another army can work just fine.

To trim the big choppa, I’d reccomend sawing of the teeth or blade on one side of the axe, then smoothing out the remainder to look like the back of an orky chain or power axe.

Then trim off the very bottom metal looking bit (if it has one) of the big choppa shaft, following that up with trimming the whole shaft to have a length similar to the choppas of the other boyz. Ending with gluing the metal bottom bit back on.

As others have said, a big choppa is meant to be more of a middle ground melee weapon whereas the normal choppa is anti-infantry and the power klaw is anti-armor.

In general, you would be better off almost always using the power klaw if you had your proposed loadout, hence it would be pretty pointless to forgo the slugga.

Of course, similar surgery would let you have both the big choppa and a slugga if you wanted as well.

I don't think that's necessary as the second hand doesn't touch the choppa. You can do big choppa in one hand and klaw in the other without sawing anything.
I am planning on going magnets for mine, though.

Ah, well that makes it easier but sawing or bashing will be necessary if the OP wants a choppa instead.
