I am curious, perhaps I have misinterpreted this rule as well as the old Hammer of the Emperor rule. What I interpret is that when a unmodified roll of a six is made, yes, it is an automatic wound. However, the target still follows normal armor save rules. I have read in many posts people referring to this as a mortal wound, but I thought it was just a wounding hit. That natural, unmodified six allowed you to bypass the normal wounding process, but then they would get their normal armor saves if applicable, not an automatic mortal wound. Has this been clarified anywhere?

There’s some stratagems and rules that give MW on 6s to-wound, which would also be 6s to-hit with Born Soldiers.
It is not an inherent part of Born Soldiers.

No clarification I know off. The rule is very clear as written.

No clarification required, the 6 to auto-wound doesn't make it a mortal wound. Under the header "Making Attacks" in the BRB, step 3 "Allocate Attack" tells you what to do "if an attack successfully wounds the target unit". A 6 to hit means that the attack has successfully wounded the target for Born Soldiers. Follow the steps from "Allocate Attack" onwards.
If you have acquaintances who insist that you can't take any saves because they rolled a 6 to hit, then they are not the type of person you want to be playing against.

If it does not mention mortal wound, then it is not a mortal wound.

I agree with you gentlemen. I'm a die hard guard player, only army I play, and that is how I have interpreted the rule. Normal armour save rules apply, if applicable. But, however, I have seen many references to this as causing an automatic wound with no save, as in a mortal wound. For instance in the current thread on Astra Militarum 9th edition tactics. I will have to try and find a quote.

Anyone references to this as causing an automatic wound with no save, as in a mortal wound are flat out wrong.
The ability never mentions a MW ever, so it is just a wound and you need to use the attack sequence to resolve it.

Until you've read these two strategems you aren't understanding the new codex.
For extra credit then flip to the relics page and read the Finial of the Nemrodesh 1st.

The combo is this, lord solar leontus gives a bare naked kasrkin unit rerolls to hit, rerolls to wound, and gives them the FRFSRF order. The kasrkin unit, with the barbicants key relic, now teleports somewhere on the battlefield. In the shooting phase both strats overcharged las calls and ingrained precision are played on them. They now have 27 shots with 9 hot shot lasguns, plus 3 shots if you give the sarge a hot shot laspistol. When they shoot they try to split up fire as much as possible. Every unmodified hit roll of 5 counts as a 6 to wound, and does 1MW in addition to normal damage. In theory this combo can do 30 MW, if you split fire on five units (each enemy unit cannot get more than 6MW), and each hit roll is an unmodified 5.
If the kasrkin unit is within range of the Finial of the Nemrodesh 1st relic banner it can ignore any negative to hit modifiers.

And how do you get the barbicants key on these Karskin? They miss the Character Keyword, so can't legally take relics.
