ok, so there's a unit of 10 warriors fighting against 5 genestealers. lets say 4 warriors die (not due to rending) and the rest run. how do you settle the WBB then? the tyranids decide to chase the fleeing necrons (using initiative), and succeeds.

Also, I think you want the "You Make The Call" forum. This forum is for proposing new rules.

This Necron online FAQ on the GW website has apparently altered the WBB rules a bit.
If a Necron unit falls back, it drags it's casualties with it.

Wow, so now it's even harder to put a necron down for good. Not that it matters to me, as I play Guard, and I always lose assaults anyway.
Oh well, donkeycannon will be happy.

WBB is such a cluttery and edited rule. They need to just give all Necrons Feel No Pain. Much easier.

While I fully agree with your point Godhead, if you continue to use profanity in your posts your account will be suspended.

Oh yes, quite a shocking use of language... My apologies... Why doesn't Dakka have a filter if words are scary to you guys? It seems to be a fairly large forum, I wouldn't have expected it to be beyond your capabilities...

There is a filter, but it obviously is far from perfect.
I didn't say your use of profanity was shocking, just against the forum rules. Simply don't do it. Not that hard.

Ok, I thought the Necron Faq only stated that happens if a necron falls in Close Combat from a power weapon and is within range of the Resurrection Orb? It doesn't say they go with the unit for ALL situations? Ohhhh... it added " The Saem logic applies to falling back from shooting".. Ok that's just messed up. But that is only for falling back models right?

Can you D.I.G. it? |

tehcnically yes, but there's not a whole lot of other movement the Necron unit can do between the end of the opponent's shooting/assault phase and the beginning of their turn. I guess consolidation or pile-in moves could do it, but there's not much else I can think of.

The genestealers chased the necrons and succeeded, right? The dead models are gone if there is nobody within 6" from where they fell as normal.
There is no WBB from getting run down in a fight. So the rest of their unit is completely gone. They still can try to get up from where they were and will join that other unit as normal.
At least if I am understanding how that fight went.

You're right midnight. I didn't notice that the orignal premise had the Necrons being caught in a sweeping advance.
Necron casualties from shooting (or close combat) would only actually be dragged with the unit if it manages to actually fall back. A Necron unit caught in a sweeping advance is wiped out without chance for WBB (per the rulebook page 43).

I may be opening up a can of worms here, but the necrons knocked down during the fight with the stealers (and any unit casulties from shooting also as Yakface mentioned), in my understanding, would be removed from the table along with the remainder of the unit once they were swept. Sweeping advance rules say the unit swept is scattered and destroyed and may not WBB: It's my understanding that although Necron's awaiting a WBB roll ignore unit coherency, and can't be attacked in any way, they are still a part of their parent unit until the point at which they successfully pass a WBB roll. Therefore, since they are a part of a unit swept and destroyed, they are no longer eligible for WBB? I believe the part bolded must be true because the WBB rules never state that downed Necrons no longer belong to their unit, just that they ignore coherency. Breaking such an important rule system as to which unit a model belongs to should require an explicit mention. After, a model passes a WBB, it may join a new unit, but only because the rules permissively state it does so. This does not mean retrospectively it was not a part of a unit before then. Also, the monolith rule with teleportation and a WBB reroll essentially breaks down if downed Necrons aren't considered as belonging to a unit, as you teleporting a unit that included downed Necrons becomes a logical impossibility.
