Come one, come all, it’s the third Heresy 2.0 Game Day at Gamer’s Haven, your place to play, 850 S. Via Lata #117, Colton, CA
This is our first event following the party that was LVO 2023. In the spirit of switching it up a bit, the day will be two games at 1,500 (Centurion) with one final game of 3k points (no limits outside of the normal LoW points). No painting requirements, deployments and missions assigned as below.
Schedule:
900 Check In/Table Assignments
930-1100 Game #1 (1500)
1100-1230 Game #2 (1500)
1230-130 Lunch
130 UTC Game #3 (3k)
Restrictions:
1,5000 Centurion Games (inspired by the Eye of Horus/Varangian Heresy rulesets). Intent is for a fast moving, infantry focused fight of light forces.
-No Tanks, Drop Pods, Flyers, Lords of War (eg Primarchs)
-Bikes, Jetbikes, Dreadnoughts (of any type), Artillery, Heavy Weapons Squads and Monstrous Creatures are 0-1 Choices each (yes this supersedes RoW)
-Named characters are permitted
-No allies
3,000 Game restriction is only the Lord of War Points as per the main rule book (so 750 points combined, if some has a painted Horus Ascended and wants to run him, go for it). Your 3k list does not need to include you 1,5000 list.
Order of Operations: Players role off, winner picks side and deploys first, opponent can seize on a six as per main rule book. Turns are set, as are missions/deployment as per below.
Game 1 1,500 Points
Deployment Search and Destroy, Mission War of Lies, Five Turns.
Game 2 1,500 Points
Deployment Hammer and Anvil, Mission Dominion (w/Dominion Objectives), Five Turns.
Game 3 ,3000 Points
Deployment Dawn of War, Mission Onslaught, Six Turns.
We'll get the BCP posted at some point for registration, but we can accommodate at least 16 players on 6x4s with proper terrain etc.

That's disappointing. I would have expected better, especially for a supposedly narrative-focused game.

Please, ignore the complaints of non- HH players, talljosh85. I hope that you and all of the other socal 30k fans that participate in this tournament enjoy themselves.

So the thing is, I'm running the event, and I want more people to play HH, so there is not a painting requirement. I have been playing it for years, and have several fully painted armies, but a lot of people are still getting up to speed.
I get that it is a narrative focused game system, and I love it, but to grow the hobby a no painting requirement is the best way early on. So many players started with the 2.0 box, and lets face it, painting an army takes a while; and the hobby standards of HH are intimidating to most.
So I do appreciate feedback, but I have my reasons. If this were NOVA or LVO etc; absolutely, enforce fully painted/based. But its not, its a casual, 30k friendly day, and only the third we have hosted, so lets make it welcoming to grow this hobby we love.

This kind of behavior only leans to triple dipped rattle can armies who are standing on bright yellow sand.

Guy I game against has joked his army meets the "three colour" rule:
1. grey resin
2. black plastic base
3. blu- tac between them
to be honest yes painted looks better, would prefer to face the grey legion (again) than a bad spray job with (maybe) a dip. if the game is fun it hardly matters, its when the player is "you know who" that you may as well have a nice army to look at
too far to take part but good wishes to the event and all who sail in her..

It's the way to kill a hobby early on. A 500 point event with a strict painting requirement is better for the hobby than a 3000 point where you're establishing the precedent that painting is optional and encouraging meta chasing, "I'll paint this someday", etc. Set the standard early and do not ever let unpainted models be an approved part of the hobby.

Fortunately "three color minimum" is obsolete and replaced with the new "battle ready" standard, where all those stupid gimmicks for technically putting three colors on a model are insufficient and will not allow you to play. You must have genuine fully painted miniatures or you don't participate.

have played in various events, 40k (twice, likely never again), WHFB (where my performance was so 'outstanding' I got medals...), Flames, DBA and a few others.
its only the GW game events where I have ever seen a painting standard being set, and only those where I have seen people trying to justify why it didn't apply to them.
that said HH v2 is still a new game, and I've seen a few other games sort of fall flat as while they had people who wanted to play, indeed people who had bought armies on launch day had zero chance to get them painted for the event date, then that event falling flat killed any further interest.
its not hard to have a note on "no painting requirements this year", the subtle hint that in future there may be
do hope to get to a HH event reasonably locally at some point, my spoon drawer has an empty space

Damn, wish I was close enough to attend. Pay no attention to the haters, most of them don't even play (and definitely won't come to your event), they just paint and complain about the game.
