The long awaited book by Daniel Mersey and Richard Cowen has finally come out. The latest in something referred to as the "Rampant Series" which is a series of games all using the same basic rules as found in the original Lion Rampant. This one takes the action all the way into the not-so and oh-so distant future. As such, it has two of my favorite elements in a wargame.... model agnostic and base agnostic! I am so here for this!

Osprey must have been pretty confident that they had a winner on their hands, as they skipped straight to hard cover with this one. Unlike the tight, original Rampant sets of rules in their nice 64 page blue book styles, this one is an indulgent 192 pages!

I am interested to see where this one mimics the Rampant series, and where it treads new ground. I probably won't go over the entire Rampant system here, but instead cover some of the key changes or updates made for this book from the core rules. If you are interested in the base rules, you can find that in my Lion Rampant review.

So, power up the main hyper drive, set your phasors to maximum carnage, and get ready to blast off into the stars!!!!!!!!!

Would you say it does for 40k models what Dragon did for fantasy models? (I.e. have a better way of playing with toys.)

There are hundreds of games on the market that do that now.

This is one of them.

Been meaning to pick this one up but it will have to be an order with Amazon, as its not available through local book stores( in my case, Heffers and Waterstones in Cambridge/Bury ). Its not even listed on Wayland Games...

That aside I've got a left over 40K Armiger Helverin and I've been wondering how well it would translate into Xenos Rampant. With a few kitbashed Imperial Guardsmen with Medieval themed pieces, it could be the starting point for a small force that feels like "Imperial Knights meets Lion Rampant". I quite like the idea of representing a Knight world beyond just it's towering robots.

Also wondering how well XR holds up with models as large as an Imperial Knight.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

Haven't played it, but using Imperial Knight is unlikely. Authors themselves express an opinion that this ruleset is ill-suited for mechanized combat and advice not to go beyond one tank per side. There are also no profiles for anything superheavy if I remember correctly, and vehicles are relatively squishy. Dreadnoughts and Armigers are stretching it.

Sounds sensible, thinking about it. Cheers.

Yeah, what SGTBanzi says. Knights and such would not be well represented in these rules.

I had similar thoughts hence these Frostgrave Knights/ Stargrave Weapons/ Wargames Atlantic Bulldog heads kitbashes. Feudal Knightworld Infantry perhaps?
