The Guild Myrmidian is a collection I have begun to build and paint to use up figures that otherwise do not fit into my established projects.

As you may imagine, this is a catch all for random human-based historical kitbashes, amongst other things.

"The First Myrmidian" is an ogre warband employed and equipped by the guild. I'm using Wargames Atlantic ogres to represent them.

I will post more photos soon, but here is the first unit from the ogre side of things.

The Guild Myrmidian's mercenary ogre battalion, the Fist Myrmidian, has received a captain, battle standard bearer, and the goldswords have received their second set of 3 members.
I am biased as I sell these in my retail store.
That being said, they are a phenomenal kit.
I've only used 3 pieces from another kit in this entire force, which are the components making up the cross bar on the standard bearer and the hammer head on the warrior priest.
Everything else is stock per the plastic kit, with a little sculpting to make some extra details.
The plastics are molded fabulously. There are no mild lines, or very very few. Some of the bits are exquisite, like the bearded head on the captain.
Making the soft caps a separate bit was genius, as it allows for more unit variation.
As always, Greg the Giant is from The peculiar companions line of miniatures and is just hanging out because he fits the theme.
I would love to hear your commentary and hear your thoughts on the army thus far.

In today's conversion inspiration corner:

Mantic goblin bodies, Wargames Atlantic boxer rebellion and Aztec arms, and Reptilian Overlords / Wargames Atlantic spacenam heads.

The archers will be receiving quivers from the bitz box shortly.

I reckon these are beardless dwarven warrior monks or halflings who went east and stayed for a time.

I'm going to be paint them red and yellow for the guild, of course. I'll have a few units of these, to soak up some of the bits box.

If you want to recreate this conversion I have Wargames Atlantic products available on my webstore and mantic items by special order, both similarly discounted from retail.

Today's #conversioncorner for my Guild Myrmidian project is a way to make use of leftover arms from the halfling monk project from yesterday.

The dwarves who trade in Talabhiem and Talabecland as a whole do not shy from trade with the cult of Myrmidia. Indeed the guild myrmidian purchases much of its armor from dwarven smiths.

In their downtime many of these dwarven tradesmen fight in the hall of fists, sacred training grounds for Myrmidia's followers attached to every temple. From simple training posts outside a community shrine to a full training complex in Magritta (Estalia) across from the Archecclesiatium (main temple) of Myrmidia, all adherents are expected to keep themselves ready to fight.

Regardless of the size of the venue, all are welcome to hone their skills under the auspice of the Goddess of War's holy ground, with any weapon imaginable (though Spears are of course favored.)
Betting is natural, but is limited to fistfights by custom.

In this, dwarves excel, often leveraging their considerable dwarven toughness to withstand their opponent like a granite cliff face.

In the event of a raid or hasty defense, those fighting in the hall of fists will take up makeshift armament and defend themselves.

Nice little blog you got here. I really need to break down and get some WGA Ogres.

Also, I'm pleasantly surprised by the Einherjar conversions. I was afraid they'd look far too sci fi, but you made it work.

Honestly, most of Wargames Atlantics sets have been quite enjoyable, from a hobby point of view.

And very malleable. I've made more use of the einherjar kit for fantasy conversions then sci Fi.

Ogre Siege breaker conversion, stage 1.

In an attempt to make a more armored look for the plastic landskneckt ogre infantry, I've been experimenting with helmets.

Going forward, the neck joint is going to be filled and then I'm going to sculpt a Gorget over it.

I'm also going to give him faulds to protect his hips.

He's going to be used as a siege breaker for kings of war, so I'm going to be doing sword + shield for the armaments.

Looking good! The red really ties it to the rest of your force.Where did you get the knight head?

Small suggestion: Due to the size of the model, you might want to use a little green stuff to do a handle and/or strap on the shield.

Yes, further knightly conversions will have details added to the shields as far as hardware and strapping.

In my excitement to finish this guy I forgot them.

Head is an enlarged highlands miniatures head.

Enlarged? Like an upscaled 3D print? It looked like a plastic kit.

I'm curious to see upcoming Ogre Knights. Keep up the good work!

Yes, upscaled 3d print. I believe these were ranged between 150 and 200 percent of file size.

WIP ogre crossbowmen.

I'm having a lull on working on the ogres while I put some time into human components.

Like human pit fighters with spears.

The Ogre with the bolt-thrower looks great!

Also, I never would have thought of using Aztec bodies like that. Those are some really unique pitfighters!

So this blog hasn't been updated in a hot minute.

I've had plenty of painting since the last update. Unfortunately my collection is in 3 places at the moment due to a move of house.

Once I have everything together again I'll take some photos.

So I'm going to be posting my latest stuff and will update after that with the full army as it stands.

I've come into a large collection of a song of ice and fire Miniatures from CMoN and have been painting them for the guild.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So what's next for the guild?

More crossbowmen, for one. I have at least 3 stands of them left to do. But I have one set base coated so they are next on the board.

I have a regiment of halberds primed, so they will most likely be next after the crossbows.

Then I've got a unit of casterly rock Honor guard to paint up. I'm thinking golden or bronze armor with yellow cloth.

After that, I am probably going to do a dornish unit I picked up in silver and yellow.

Then I'm torn between more "Lannisters" or doing some of the baratheons I picked up last year .

I'm trying to clear out all these CMoN minis from the painting queue before moving on. But they will fill out the army with some units.

11 more models painted for the guild Myrmidian.

6 warlord fusiliers

4 converted Wargames Atlantic spearmen. These are Persians with heads from victrix ancient iberians.

And 1 warlord swordsman. Currently without a shield and awaiting more of his unit to be painted so as to be put on a unit base.

The swordsman actually represents a testing of theory. I heard that if you use a magenta base coat, dry brush white and then use a yellow ink you will get a stronger yellow with pinkish undertones that create a gradient effect.

I may have gone too heavy on the dry brush, but he stands as proof that it does work and allows the yellow to shine through, so to speak. Something to note and refine later.

Another six hand-gun infantry.

Basing on these is work in progress.

These were a test of the color theory a discussion / technique whereby you base coat with magenta before dry brushing white and then applying a yellow wash to get a deeper yellow.

I think the results show success but I don't know if it's worth the extra effort. Thoughts?

The rest of these were very basic washing and single coats. I'm aiming for tabletop standard.
