Subject: Don't look back 2nd edition -- Black Site studio
Don't look back is a horror movie survival solo/co-op tabletop game from blacksite studio. They're doing a pre-order launch for it to unlock more content.
Don’t Look Back is a solo/cooperative miniature experience for up to four players. When using the advanced rules, another player may also control The Killer! One of the unique aspects of Don’t Look Back is that Characters are only aware of things happening with their Awareness stat in inches. This means that Killers can disappear from sight and rampage from the shadows, catching the Characters by surprise and capturing classic slasher movie moments!
Don’t Look Back uses a simple D20 system where players are often looking to roll equal to or less than a Character’s skill value to determine success on the actions they take. When a Character activates they are able to choose between taking a single long action and short action or two short actions.
The Killers in Don’t Look Back are made from three aspects. The Visage explains how durable The Killer is and what kinds of attacks it will make. Its M.O. explains how The Killer will be placed on the table and how and who it will move after. Finally, each Killer has two traits that give it some additional unique abilities that can really change how they hunt and interact with the Characters.
Characters are looking to complete the objective of the Plot while surviving against The Killer before time is up.
Whats new in the book? Revised mechanics and more clarity.
The second edition of Don’t Look Back is focused on making sure that the rules and mechanics for the game are as clear and easy to understand as possible. For a few examples, we have spent a lot of time revisiting how The Killer moves and changed the Characters’ Fright value to Terror to make that interaction with damage and special rules clear and not to be confused with the Fright tokens roaming the table, and added the exact wound value of each Character. Ben has also spent a lot of time with the layout to make sure that information is presented in a clearer and more thematic way!
New Characters. The new edition of Don’t Look Back introduces two new Characters to the game. We are excited to present Mia Green, a tough no-nonsense scraper, and Keen Houser a lovable dealer of local naturals.
Plot Creation In addition to the five classic, core Plots, players will be able to randomly generate their own plots. This includes things like the turn length, objectives, how The Killer can appear, and fun optional thematic elements to help really bring the Plots to life.
Vehicles Players will also find optional, advanced rules to add vehicles to their games of Don’t Look Back. These rules are designed to capture the unpredictable nature of vehicles in horror settings. Don’t be surprised if The Killer sits up in the back seat and attacks the driver!
Companions Characters will now also be able to bring along Companions to Plots. Doing this prevents the Character from searching for additional items but can give them bonuses to skills and a special ability activated with Character Luck.
Previous Expansions All of the rules from Trilogies, Final Call, and Pack Hunt have been integrated into the new second-edition book as Advanced Rules. All of these rules have been revisited to enhance clarity and bring them in line with any changes to the core rules.
As with past BSS pre-orders everything should eventually be released initially, including STLS, after pre-orders ship.

What a great game!!!

I'm really sad there's not a print book & cards + STL minis hybrid pack.
I've been tempted by the first edition every time GMG has done a Let's Play series. I'll keep an eye on this one, but I'd rather have a physical book and tokens, but print my own minis I don't see a very cost-effective way to do that with the current packages and add-ons.

I'm in it for The base run, Sculder and Moully, and a bunch of other folks we've seen on the big and small screen...
The unlocks are legendary!

Bringing this back up to let people know that Black Site Studio is running a Gamefound campaign to produce a new starter box and expansions for Don't Look Back second edition:
It's not a new edition, just a starter box with unique characters, a new killer, a quickstart rulebook, tokens, card terrain, etc. A good 'get you playing' starter that will guide new players into using using the full core rulebook later (after buying it, of course). There's also a new expansion pack with a mini campaign and updates of some first edition characters, as well as some smaller card pack expansions for specific horror settings like the campground and suburbia (so far).
It's already funded and past a few stretch goals.

It's one of my favorite games. The starter is something 2nd edition needs as while the core book is one of the best I own from any miniature line, in terms of all around quality and presentation, it can be a bit overwhelming at first as there's everything and the kitchen sink included that let you really do pretty much anything with the game mechanics (switch it to PVP, make your own characters even do a basic RPG if you really want).
It's more boardgame/rpg like in there's no balance between players as some characters are better then others based off of the killers and other conditions so until you learn the game some you can easily just pick characters that are making your scenario harder to win -- but nothing that would prevent you from winning.
If you have friends that aren't into wargaming but like boardgames or RPGs this is a good game to introduce them too if you want them to experience the joy of measuring tape based movement (or mdf knifes in the case of this game).

So the negative seems to be, you on,y get the QuickStart rules not a full rulebook.
Though as described above the full book is maybe too much. But both would have been good?
The 99 dollar one, I think it was. Is Base and expansion. So will end with 10 characters and 3 killers if all gets unlocked. That seems good, with two lots of terrain, one for each scenario set etc.
It’s definitely caught my eye. Will look over the coming days.

The $99 pledge also includes the Summer Camp themed card pack which, amongst other things, give additional customisation options for the killers.
I believe the core rule book is very large so isn’t feasible to place in a starter set. I saw them post that all the rules required to play are included, just some additional rules like custom character creation are not along with the in depth lore.
